Any Diving Plans for Aught 7?

Is anybody planning any diving in 2007?  We are.

We are currently wating for our bosses to come back to work and
approve our vacation before booking a package in Cozumel/Iberostar in
late March.

Then, since Canada Day is on a weekend, and we will be getting the
Monday off, Florida Keys in the last week of June seems like a plan.

I want to go on the Aquacat in early September, but, that's hurricane
season, so we are not too sure.  Maybe we will take our chances with a
last minute booking on that one.

Final trip will probably be in December.  We enjoyed our stay at
Little Cayman Beach Resort in December 2005 so much that we might just
go back.

Sounds like that could become an event.......

There is no such thing, only dives that require more skill.  Not
everyone enjoys those, think you'll find more than a few that enjoy the
"easy" stuff.

It's a long way off, but I'm interested.

Well, Dan did say "the last week of June."

Sounds like a plan in the making. I'm interested.

It's a plan with a lot of uncertainty at the moment.  The wifely one
might have to go to Australia on business.  This might cause us to
start a sentence with, "Well now,"

Australia...Florida...Australia...Florida...Hmmm. I've been to
Australia and it's overrated, beer's warm, has sharks with attitude
problems, very small jellyfish with venom issues and the populace has
an obsession with cooked mutton.

Go to Florida.

It's the Australian Medical thing that would make me choose Florida.
But, then again, according to this,

But if the wife is going to be there anyhow, it's worth considering.

Questionnaires rank right up there with televangelists imo.

Cairns looks to be a nice place to go and has a nice set of the
GBReefs offshore anywhere from an hour to 2 hour boat ride out. I
never got to dive there when we were in Sydney. Shame there wasn't
time. I did manage to dive around Perth but that was a loooonng time
ago.

I'd be interested, but my wife wants our next vacation to be to Italy.  Seeing as how I've basically
chosen, planned, and booked our last four trips, I figure that she should probably at least get a
say in the next one.  If we can get to Italy over her Spring Break, then it might be doable...

Tell her you're taking her to Venice.  Spend a night there, then take
I-75 south.

That's a pretty good idea, but I'd like to still be married when the vacation is over.

OK, then a couple of nights on Venice Beach, then bring her down to meet
the FL boys.  Guaranteed to rate enough points that she'd be
happy.......enough.

Jeeeez Curtis, ya wanta scare the sh.t outta her! Introduce her to the
SFla SO brigrade, your's,  Lee's, ESG's and Bullsharks.I'll drag mine
down (if she's still talking to me), Gregg (if his is still talking to
him) and Popeye (as soon as he picks one of many). I would add Limey
Daves but she has her hands full right now.

Intorduce her to us off the cuff and she's libable to divorce Chris
under the General Principle rule.

If you all bring your wives, Chris's wife will realize you are not
available and will stick with him due to lack of other options.

The way it's looking for us right now is that the wife is going to
Australia, I am not, and the Cozumel trip ain't gonna happen.  This
leaves us with an extra week of vacation and we are actually
contemplating 2 weeks in Florida.

But nothing is for sure until the Visa number is submitted.

Well, 2 weekends should insure that I get at least one to sneak down
south.

Things may have changed somewhat this past week.

I *may* actually be able to convince her to head to Florida over her Spring break.

Are there any nice destinations that won't be overrun with half naked beach bimbos?  If so, please
let me know so that I can avoid those destinations.  :-)

Looe Key is one of the nicest places I have ever dove.  Trip report
here:  http://www.pathcom.com/~bracuk/Trips/LowerFloridaKeys.htm

Not too sure about March water temps though.  There might be some info
on the internet.

For me, Fla Keys over MLK weekend (first time for the Spiegel Grove) and maybe the Crystal River
later in the week for some snorkeling (unless any Fla. folks have other ideas).

2nd Planed Trip - Palau in mid Feb for 1/2 a month - Hopefully to rack up a few more logged dives
and put up more photos on my website.

After that, the calendar is open. I hope to dive a lot at my home base (Dutch Springs). May take TDI Advanced
Nitrox/Decompression course from my LDS at Dutch. Could go back to Tahiti again. Want to dive "The Roses"
for a bit of photography as well (site is at 120-130fsw so the Deco class will come in handy). We'll see.

Some, I hope.  Planning on learning the ice diving thing over the
winter, budget allowing.  Regardless, when the water gets soft again
there'll be the "spring refresher" dive, AKA, "just how dumb are we/why
don't we wait for warmer weather" dive.  Spring'll see our annual trip
to BC, and I'm moving to Toronto June-ish, so I'm hoping to get in some
great lake diving in the summer and fall.  Budget is limited due to the
move, so no warm trips this year :(

Great diving for people living in Toronto starts with a trip to the
airport.

If you insist on local diving, it is more likely to be in the St
Lawrence River or Georgian Bay, neither of which is a Great Lake.

> Is anybody planning any diving in 2007?  We are.

So far it's just repeat trips for 2007.  I'm having to take some big
chances with my business this year out of necessity, so I'm going to be
far more conservative with my dive plans out of the need to get more
relaxation done and less adventuring.  No new cultures to be shocked
by, no unfamiliar airports or currencies or customs.

March: Buddy Dive, Bonaire.  My second trip there.  Last time was over
a New Year's, me by myself along with a large rowdy dive shop group and
an assigned roommate who was pretty weird and snored louder than anyone
I've ever heard.  This time it's just Janna and me and I'll have a much
quieter and better time, I hope.  Plus I got a quick immersion in Dutch
culture in the four nights we just spent in Amsterdam, so I have a much
better appreciation now of why the table service is so slow there.

August: Sky Dancer, Galapagos.  My second trip there.  Last time was
right at the beginning of the whale shark season and we saw the brutes
on four separate dives.  Unfortunately I had to sit out three of them
because I ended up getting a cold and unclearable ears.  This time I'll
wear warmer clothes and take lots of echinacea because we're going at
the peak of whale shark season and I'm going to take video footage that
will be sought after by the Discovery Channel and perhaps Walt Disney
himself were he not dead, so I dare not miss a dive.  Last time it was
with a group from my local dive shop, me rooming and diving with the
shop owner, on the Aggressor one-week trip.  This time I've upgraded to
PH, on a 10-day itinerary, and I might have a better time.  Even if
it's almost as good a time, that's fine too, since my last trip there
ranks as one of my top trips ever.

If work permits, I'll try to fit in a short trip after Janna's done
with the school year.  Maybe the Florida Keys in the last week of June.

Dan - I dive the Cayman a lot.  The trip I want to take this summer is
aboard one of  the Nikton  live aboards which apparently is now
servicing Little Cayman.  Nice big wide platform overtop of Bloody Bay
Wall.  Should be good, especially for photos, in the hot summer.

As for the Exumas. Did a fly dive thing a few years ago (dive 3 dives
on a Bahamas island, jump in a plane, fly to next Bahamas island
(always flying real low) and dive some more.  Lots of site in the
Exumas.  As I remember them, not much in the way of big fish, but,
lotsa life and much more colourful reefs than anything else around.
They aren't visited all that much so weren't signs of damage, but, that
was a few years ago.
