First of all, I want to briefly introduce myself. I've been diving
since '87, hold Instructor certs with NAUI, TDI and DAN and work as the
Diving Safety Officer for the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA. I'm
also a tech diver (though that is the newest component to my diving)
and my ultimate goal is the Doria.

I've also been working on a novel over the course of the past ten
years. Well, it's finally in print and so now I am spreading the word
to everyone who would dig a story like this. I don't want this to be
considered junk mail, so I'm trying to be considerate how I get the
word out.

Out Of Hell's Kitchen is a rousing good yarn (that of course has great
diving action) that has already won Editor's Choice and Publisher's
Choice awards from the publisher, but it is up to me to market the book
and get it into the hands of people who will enjoy reading it.

It's currently available at Amazon.com, BarnesAndNoble.com, and just
about every other online bookseller out there - or you can check out
the book's site to find out more about it and me.

And if you do like it, please help me get the word out - because I am
working on the sequel (the first chapter of which is at the end of this
novel) and want to keep my characters alive...

Happy reading,

If it's that good hook us up with the first few chapters and let us decide
if we want to buy. Consider it a trailer...

It's about a guy who's been diving since 1987 but recently started spamming
new groups.  Oh, the tales of intrigue and ...  Well, we mustn't reveal too
much.

I have a pretty good idea of how it ends.
And...it's a long story ;)

Hey, sorry if you guys think it's spam. Pretty spam sensitive I guess -
though I don't blame you.

I'm a long time diver, I work in the dive industry and I've written a
novel. Big deal.

The reason I wrote it was because I was sick of the crap writing in the
action / adventure genre. You can form your own opinion - an exerpt and
the first chapter are available on the book's web site,
www.outofhellskitchen.com.

Best,
John

The last guy that wrote his own book offered to send 5 free copies to members to read and review (as
long as those who received them agreed to post their reviews).  If you're willing to do the same,
I'd be interested in getting a copy.

I will admit that the reviews he received weren't very glowing, but his book wasn't very good
either.

Chris -

I'd definitely love to do that, though this is a self-published title
and I've pretty much blown my budget already. I have had the book
reviewed by editors and by some random public, and though I have a
fairly thick skin - I didn't need to have one for the reviews as they
were all good - though that won't last I'm sure. Best I can say is to
check out the site as the entire first chapter is available for reading
(www.johnhanzl.com)

If you ever do read it - I would love to know your take on it...

John

I read the excerpts on the website.  Who can resist spam?

I was curious why the scooter plumetted so quickly.  Aren't many or more
scooters designed to be neutral underwater?  Gavins come positively buoyant
and they're DIR.

Then I started the free chapter one, but was put off by the annoying
Russian.  Pick one language and write in it.  Clavell used a lot of Japanese
in Shogun and that was instructive, but I have a feeling that you're not
writing a 1,000-page-plus historical epic and that you're no Clavell.

If you want more free critique, go ahead and send my copy to Chris Guynn and
I'll have him forward it to me when he's done with it.  But please stop
spamming this newsgroup.  You apparently work in a public position and it
would do you no good to be branded a spammer.  Based on the reliable
estimates of the current number of loyal rec.scubans, we could get 40,000
Bostonians picketing the aquarium in a heartbeat and you'd be forced into
cleaning hulls in Key West for the rest of your miserable spamming life.
That would make a good book.
