Recall on Versa Pro computers, which I recall from prior discussions
that some of you own:

http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/news/article.asp?newsid=800

"Hazard: When using the dive computer set for “User Selected Digital
Gauge Mode,” the “Elapsed Dive Time” displayed can exceed the actual
elapsed time under water. This can cause divers to ascend before
fulfilling a decompression obligation, resulting in decompression sickness.

Incidents/Injuries: Oceanic has received one report of the dive
computers malfunctioning. No injuries have been reported.

Description and Models: The recall involves Oceanic-brand Versa Pro 2A
dive computers with serial numbers 12000 through 18176 which can be
accessed and viewed on the computer’s display. The serial number and
“r2A” are printed on the side of the unit. This recall does not include
any other Oceanic brand dive computer, or Versa Pro 2A while operated in
normal decompression dive computer mode."

I called Oceanic about mine using the number listed on the website
above, and they confirmed it's affected.  Mine is *not* marked "2A" on
the case (however, the Oceanlog program does say that's the software
version).  The guy who answered the phone said they would update the
software and send it back, and that the update would erase all dive
history from the computer.

Is that the same problem that caused the recall of the Suunto D6 & D9?

Where's that guy that says bottom timers can't bend you?  8^)

Ouch.

Meanwhile, my Suunto performed admirably on my last trip, doing 22 dives
over the week at 50-60 minutes each and as deep as 128', average depths in
the 70s due to the reef/wall not starting until about 50' or so, not
incurring a single deco obligation beyond the one-minute mandatory "safety"
stop.

BTW, water was clear and 84-degree warm.  A few sharks, a couple turtles, an
eagle ray, lots of southern stingray, a few green and several spotted
morays, and a single flying gurnard.  Corals were decent at French Cay, less
so at West Caicos, and pretty beaten up off Provo.  Healthy fish
populations, except at the latter island.  Very competent crew of 5.
Friendly group of 7 other divers.  Sure, 8 divers is more than a six-pac,
but it wasn't too shabby on a 100' boat with three decks.  Excellent food,
boat in great shape and very comfortable, a few too many baby cockroaches.
Overall a very nice week, except that my brand-new Discovery 10 video lights
from Amphibico both failed to work upon arrival.  They're headed back to
Amphibico as soon as I can figure out how to ship them to Canada.  Damn
Canadians.

Only one minute? What is the model?

D9

Why would you make an optional 3-5 minute safety stop mandatory longer than
one minute?

Not wanting to discuss decompression teory I usualy have 3 minutes
stops with my Vyper. ( In no deco dives ) As far as I undestood these
are a safety stop.
