Unheard of Water Temps

I stopped into my local dive shop yesterday before I went to the gym
and was told that a group of people had dove Isle Royale last weekend.
They dove many of the wrecks there including the Kamloops.  Anywho,
the surface temps were 63 degrees and the thermocline was at 80 feet.
In other words, 63 degrees @ 80 feet, which is ungodly warm for
Superior.  The dive shop owner said the water temps this year have
never been seen before.  He also stated that the vis was excellent.

So, if anyone here has wanted to dive the wrecks in Superior but were
put off by the cold temperatures of the water, this fall might be the
time to come up and dive.  I plan on going back up later this month.

I'm there!
Let me know when they warm up another 15degrees.

You'd be toasty warm in just a 5 mm full wetsuit.

Thermocline is at 50 ft in Travis this week.  80 degrees below the
line, viz about 15-20 ft.  Gonna try to get in a Wednesday night dive
while the diving is still good.

80 degrees BELOW the thermoclime?  You've got to be kidding... I don't think
I've *ever* been up there where it wasn't fuckin' cold upon hitting the
thermoclime... Heatstroke and hypothermia in a single dive is more like
it... Is there like a second thermoclime where it gets back down to its
normally fuckin' cold temperature?

The word is it's around 75-80 ft.  72 degrees.  There's another right
at a hundred that's around 65.

The surface was at 84 on Friday.

But it's all moot because IT'S RAINING!!!!!

OK, that sounds a bit closer to normal, albeit the levels aren't the same...
65F does seem a bit warm compared to what I remember last, but maybe the
change from heatstroke temperatures just made it *seem* like it was
colder...

What?  You're afraid your gonna get *wet*? <grin>

Maybe it'll raise the lakes up some so that they can start allowing more
water to flow down the Guadalupe... That should help the various tubing
business along the river... When we were there awhile back, it was more
like, "rent a tube and walk it down the river" instead of floating down...

Nope, because the rain muddies up the water.

The viz is great below the first thermal, although you do need a
light.  10-15 ft.

Carrying a tube AND a cooler can be a real pain.
