It was a hectic time in the land of blue seas and potbellied divemasters.
Arrived early, not too early, and immediately signed up to dive. Arrived at
the boat just in time to ask what the piles of shovels was doing on the
dock. It was broken English but I understood that we were to dive and
shovel the sand off the reef if we found places where it was piled too high.
While somewhat unusual, I recollected the hurricane history and conceded
that it might be a humanitarian gesture to help with the redevelopment
efforts of our neighbor to the south.
It reminded me of the time I dove in Lewisville Lake in Texas with the
exception that in Texas we used the shovel to remove the mud from in front
of our mask. Drifting along at four knots, shovels pointed and ready for
the next heap of finely crushed particulate, all the while trying to glimpse
at the abundant marine life. Wow, what fun. Dove steady, cleaned the reef,
and came home with bags of addresses from all my rec.scuba dive buddies in
my new adopted country.
Peace amigos. I recommend it Coz it was fun. (Bring your own spade if you
plan an extended stay.)

If you make it sound like fun next year you'll have to rent the shovel!

Mom nature will take care of those acres and tons of sand that have been
moved around down there. S**t happens. Still a great place to go on a dive
vacation, wish I was there.
