Hi guys and greetings from Sipadan, Maleysia. It's been two days of
magnificent diving.

I received chemotherapy in 2003 and survived testicular cancer. I know
there is some issues with diving after such treatment.

I've done 30 occasional recreational fun dives up to 36m without any
problems since 2004. I am also back to competitive sports and feel
healthy, but am concerned about long excessive periods of diving such
as in the divemaster course. (which I am planning to do not to become
an instructor but to get experience and confidence.)

Do you know where I could get more detailed information how much diving
is concidered safe? I don't feel comfortable asking the diveshop people
about it.

Thanks,
KK

Assuming you didn't treat yourself through castration and a microwave oven,
you probably went to a doctor.  There's a possibility that he or she might
be able to advise you, or can refer to someone who can.  Otherwise, Divers
Alert Network has knowledgeable medical advisors on staff and can refer you
to hyperbaric knowledgeable MDs of all specialties around the globe.  Good
luck with your balls and dive safe.

How's the drop off?

But you'll ask us?  Hmm . . .OK, I guess maybe you don't want to have to
tell them.

Why don't you ask your oncologist?

Frankly, 3 years after your last treatment . . .my guess is you don't have
anything to worry about, at least from a diving perspective.

Your oncologist is your best friend when it comes to medical advice.
Our GP defers everything to Carol's oncologist.

Speaking of Carol.  We saw her surgeon today.  She's healed up nicely,
has put in another of her 50 hour work weeks.  He's quite happy with
his work and feels that she is "clinically disease free".  He thinks
that the exposed margin is nothing more than that, and not an
intrusion.  She starts radiation on the 5th and has a follow up with
Dr. Smith in December.  She'll see her oncologist next Friday, I'll be
in Indy for the USGP.

Things are definitely brighter than they were 5 months ago.

Congratulations.

36 meters exceeds the limits most divers set for themselves.  That kind of
diving is not the most extreme, but it's certainly on the advanced end of
recreational.

First, talk to your doctor, trying to get details of your condition.  Ask
about limitations related to diving, particularly pressure.  I don't know
why there would be any, but you pay good money to people who are supposed to
know things like this.  Armed with whatever you can get from your own
doctors, do an internet search (Google.com) on DAN or Divers Alert Network,
find a number for them and ask.

You should have no problem.  We have a number of people in this group that,
as near as we can, have no balls at all and never did.

Between my son and I, we have three.

Would that then become "testiculi"?

Neither would I.  Join DAN and send them a note.
