Although she's only been down on the bottom for just 95 years, she's
in immaculate condition:

If I get into tech diving, I also plan on diving the Gunilda even
though she is in Canuck waters:-)

These guys dive her every year:  http://www.rheas.mbdc.net/

Cool!  I've got about a dozen LDS' and it looks like goingunder.net
dives her...at least they did once (the dive shop is now for sale as
of two days ago.  Speaking of which, they seem to be heavily into tech
diving.  Does a tech diver open a dive shop to offset his expenses-:).
Anywho, what do they say about her?

There was another local news story (apparently they did the same story
about 30 years ago on the guy.  The reporter, Ken Speak, is damn near
as old as that diver is and it was basically an update.  Or, more like
a prologue to a wasted life.) about a millionaire who has lost his
wife and most of his fortune trying to raise her.  I believe he bought
the rights to her back in the day.  He's now too old to ever see her
surface.  But, that may be to our (hey, I'm a diver now) advantage. So
tell me Popeye, you interested in diving her?  You are a tech diver,
right?  Forgive me but I haven't paid critical attention here but I
got the impression that you were.  If not, would you if you were?

Pound for pound and location-wise, if there's a better dive shop than
mine, I ain't seen it, but you have to take the pedigree into account as
well.

Ya, but the Gunilda, she'd be way down on my list.

Top right now would be the Saratoga.

 Or the Oriskany.

You can't touch the Gunilda, and need a permit from the whiny Canadians.

I'm not an admirer of art, I have no desire to dive down there just to
peek at it in the gloom (hence my recent arrest).

I might not pry out a porthole, but I damn well might carve a heart with
<chilly wants popeye> or <george irvine wants george irvine> in it on the
cabin wall. :-)

My guys do it with a Chicago outfit every year in conjunction with a
trimix class they teach.

They report that you can see sheets of paper on the table in the bridge.

For the money it cost, I'd rather do Lake Champlain, and see Arnold's
fleet.

Is far as diving, I'm rec/lite tek, I have no strong itch for extended
deco but want to be prepared to dive anytime/anywhere.

My best dive is a West Palm Beach night drift dive or a Keys Wreck dive.

Hot damn.  That is exactly what I plan on doing when I fly down to
Florida the last week of August.

That's what you think.  There's a hurricane scheduled then.

I will.  My buddy in Florida needs to get off his a.s and get
certified.  If he get's his cert earlier, I may even come down sooner.
But, the last week of August is the tentative date.

August is usually the best time to dive Boynton.  WPB is, according to TWC,
the rainiest spot in the USA, and Boynton is just 15 min south.  Just did 6
dives w/Splashdown & Loggerhead Sun-Tue.  Vis was down, due to upwelling
from the deep, rolling in and sweeping over the reef.  If U were diving
inside the reef, U were swimming sideways along the ledge, bearing E,
heading N.  Had Capt Jim drop us on the outside of the reef on my last dive
Tue and it was a friggin FREIGHT TRAIN.  Me and bro were having the time of
our lives until we got swept out over the sand (DOH!)  Managed to make it
back to the reef, but burned some EAN doing so.

The other folks stayed on the inside of the reef and a (successful) hunter
attracted a couple teenybopper Bull Sharks.  Always a fun place 2 dive.

I suggest you gain a whole lot of diving experience before trying any
technical diving. And that you gain a whole lot of technical diving experience
before you attempt a 280 foot dive. Dives like that are serious business. You
shouldn't be in a hurry to kill yourself.

Yeah, you've got the rest of your life to do it... <evil-grin>

Uhmm, did you notice where I said "if I get into tech diving"?  It is
not in the foreseeable future for me, if ever.  But thanks for caring.
