Hey guys,
I just returned from my latest trip to Baja; more specifically, Mulegé
and Loreto. I dived only in Mulegé this time, however, as I wanted to
dive a small island off shore called Ildefonso. I just want to report,
WOW, it is worth the ride.
I dived with Cortez Explorers - http://www.cortez-explorers.com - and
they were excellent. The have just started these 2 and 3 days trips to
this remote island and I was one of the first lucky ones... We saw many
bait fish heading out the 40 miles to the dive site, and once there we
encountered many large pelagics. No shark on this trip, but some
amazing images of schooling yellowtail, barracuda jacks and treveley.
We saw mobula jumping on the surface, but nothing under the water - oh,
and dolphins everywhere!
All in all it was a great, well organized, trip. I plan on going back
soon. The water was a perfect 85 degrees. Does anyone know the best
time to see whale shark in the mid range of the sea of cortez? I heard
Bahia de Los Angeles is the place to go - does anyone have any
experience?
thanks
carioca girl.

Wow, you got lucky in more ways than one.
I dove with Cortez Explorers about a year ago and it was fine, once I
adapted to Andy's style, but it sounds like the new owner has stepped it
up. Not surprising, I guess, since I think Andy was tired of running
the place. I'm glad he succeeded in selling it.
I wasn't really excited about going back because the trip to the dive
sites was a little long and a little rough. Going on a 2-3 day trip
sounds like a much better way to do it.
Also, the water temp last Memorial Day weekend was nowhere near 85, more
like 70. Even wearing a 7mm, one dive without a hood was enough.
I'm very glad to hear new energy is being poured into that shop, because
Mulege' is a great little town and the dive sites had some truly
wonderful critters.
Did you stay at the spa at the top of the hill, by any chance?
