Been "lurking" for awhile, time to post.  Short history:

a.. Got Certified in 1968 @ YMCA, OW in Lake Michigan
b.. Did a bunch of diving in Florida, California and up in the PNW.
c.. Didn't dive for several years, convinced wife to start, went through
NAUI course with her.  Took her to Belize this past Feb. and she is now
hooked, even likes cold water since I got her a drysuit.
It has been interesting reading most of the posts, some very knowledgeable
divers here! There are exceptions, such as the persistent flamers, who
inundate their posts with redundant expletives, indicating a lack of
vocabulary, intelligence or both. Seems some have a problem with
contractions as well, such as "your" instead of "you're", repeated often
enough so it is obviously not a typo.

For those in the "knowledgeable" group, I would like your ideas on "save a
dive gear".

I usually take an extra mask + spare strap, fins + extra strap, batteries,
O-rings and often take spare reg. and computer if going to out of the way
places.

What else would be a good idea to include?

So do I. Usually I also have my Deco 2000, an additional watch, a "buddy
line", snorkel, reel, SMB and spare torch.  This buddy line is an
approx. 7 ft/0.25" line, wich can be used for quite a lot of things
under water.  These things go all into my pockets.  Additionally I also
take my toolbox with me, just for the case.  :-)

The only thing I'd like to add in the near future is oxygen.  Either as
stage tank with it's own reg or as Wenoll system.  But that's another story.

I assume the "seperate shoulder bag for lead" includes spare magazines and
ammo, right?

I worked on a dive boat in West Palm, so I saw a lot of what broke.

I may have a better way to ask your question, check out my new thread.

I must have missed that section... I bet that, at the end of the day, that's
the most interesting part of the kit.

Looks like you add something to "be prepared".  How about a personal
defirillator?

You must have fun going through airport security these days...

 I drive to dive, Doc.

Although there were rumors of rumors of scuba in faraway lands...

First, I suggest you expand what you carry to local places.  Problems are
not limited to remote locations.  I carry a spare mask everyplace since I
had one fall apart as the boat left the dock.  Lucky for me, someone had a
loaner.  I carry a complete spare regulator pretty much everyplace as well.

You didn't mention tools for normal regulator assembly.  A Scuba Tool, by
the way, isn't quite as versatile as advertised.  I carry one or two box end
wrenches as well.  My kit also includes defog, O ring lubricant, a few zip
ties, all the port plugs from all the regulators I've ever owned and some
Advil.

I agree with Lee.  A couple simple tools can often save a dive.

I also suggest that you ask the technician at your local dive center
to show you how to adjust your 2nd stages to stop a free flow.
This isn't rocket science, but you need to see it done before you
try it.  A quarter turn or less (in the right place!) can save a dive.

I do take tools, zip ties and extra reg mouth piece. I just started using
500 PSI defog, seems to work pretty good.
Didn't think about a spare port plug.  Going to have to get a bigger bag ;)

Thanks, Dan

I've tried 500 psi.  My mask fogged the worst it ever has.  It was on a
night dive and the fogging was so bad that I no sooner rinsed my mask out
than it was fogged again.  I had to ascend using another diver's light as a
reference.  I could not see any of my gauges.

I don't know what the problem was.  You're not the only person that seems to
like the stuff.  I threw mine away.

The port plugs are small.

I have been putting it on dry, then very good rinse.  Have had it last a
couple dives--1 hr SI.

Guess I can squeeze a couple plugs in ;).

Cash is the most likely the thing needed most on dive trips. Usually for the
bar bill more than dive gear :)

Thanks all for the dive gear recomendations. Dan
