the Favor does have a limited planning function. in plan mode it shows
various depths and the max bottom time with you computed nitrogen load.
If you tell it to plan for a second/repetitive dive then the displayed max
bottom times are decreased.

We always hear that saying, but it is not always possible to do
that... There are cases where you might not know how deep you are
going to be going or how long you're going to be there before you
start the dive... Take exploratory caving for example... You might
suspect that a certain 'pond' is in fact a sink hole into the
aquifer... You don't know how deep it will turn out to be before you
make the dive and depending upon what you find, you might be down
there a long time or a very short time (i.e. it really was just a
pond)... Actually, my experience is that I'm down in the ponds for a
longer time (but at a rather shallow depth) because I keep searching
while saying to myself, "Well, there must be *something* down here"...
Of course, I'm usually wrong... For these types of dives, a dive
computer sure is useful, although as Lee has said before, you can't
get into too much of a deco obligation on a single AL80 dive per
day...
