Well, that's not exactly what I meant. The ease of access to the dives is
superior out of San Pedro. Belize City is not a great place to stay either.

I think you mean the Atolls. I was talking the Cayes of Ambergris Caye
and/or Caye Caulker.

At least one. I've done it 6 times and could do it 6 more. The 2 followup
dives are fabulous too.

How "advanced" is the Blue Hole? If my dive books are correct (and my understanding
of them), the entrance is at 130ft and the bell below the entrance goes to 400+ ft.
How do people normally dive it? Do you only go down just to the entrance or can you
go down into the bell?
It looks spectacular from the photos I've seen of it, but I would think it pushes
the limits of recreational diving, no?
Thanks.

Mag, don't let em fool ya, deeper is only better for your wife or girl
friend. Stay in the 45 to 60 FSW for 10 or 20 dives and then explore
deep and dark.
Dr Yak - 21 Jan 2006 02:16 GMT
The dive starts at about 40 feet and goes to 130. I think my computer
read 140 or maybe 145 when I got back on the boat.

You don't know how deep you were until you were back on the boat?

He was narced and couldn't read his guages.

Hey, the dive starts as soon as your head's beneath the surface of the
water. ;^)
The dropoff to the wall of the Hole is at around 40'.

Limits!
There are limits?
Says who?

The wall of the Hole drops straight down until about 110' where the wall
cuts back into an overhand and there are found the ancient stalactites. It
is generally intended that the divers will arrest their descent no deeper
than 130'. The dive plan then has the divers winding amongst the
stalactites and/or swimming along under the overhang. All too soon the slow
ascent that gradually circles back up the wall begins.
Yes, the Hole is believed to be around 480' deep and does lead into a series
of caves. For obvious reasons, it has not been fully explored.

See above.

I find it spectacular.

Ah, OK. At what depth does the wall begin?

Would you consider this dive be a viable Nitrox candidate to extend no-deco limits and therefore,
bottom time? Perhaps at EANx32?
Thanks much.

OOPS, nevermind, I see it starts at 40' from your earlier posts (and Dr. Yak).

Perhaps not actually as @ 130' 5 atm * .32 = 1.6 P02 - the absoulte max for rec. diving.
Oh well.

Absolutely. This is a deep dive, not for beginners at all. The main part of
the dive is in the 130' range.

Nitrox at 130' and deeper???

Uh, Schmoe . . .would you care to rephrase?

The diving off Ambergris is very mediocre. San Pedro is a real cute place to
hangout and relax but I would never dive from there again. Correct, the
Atolls are the place to dive & stay.

Yep, very cool though the depth catches up to ya quick. I recall looking at
my gauge at 120, glancing up for a sec, looked back down to see 140. Oops,
think I'll drift back up a bit. <g> Great silky sharks though and just a
real neat dive.
