I am a massive lover of being under water but have a major problem with
being a nose breather!
Having my nose blocked by a mask makes me want to throw up!
This really holds me back from enjoying the water and is very
frustrating?

Does anyone have any tips to help me out??

Thank you

Get a full face mask?

Do you know if it's possible to get them for snorkeling?

I'm an engineer... ANYTHING is possible... It's just a matter of how much
money you're willing to spend... Personally, I think that your time would be
better spent overcoming your issue with breathing through your mouth...

When you're jogging or some other sort of activity that requires more air
intake, do you still only breathe through your nose?

Thanks for replying, I do breath through my my when i'm running as well
as my noose, I consider myself a rational & inteligent person and am
fully aware that it is psycological but i just can't seem to get my
head round it! i suppose it's a bit like being afraid of spiders or
cheese or somthing. guess i should just keep trying

You can breathe through a noose as long as it's not too tight.  But afraid
of cheese?

Next thing you know, you're afraid of wine, crackers, chocolate and
coffee.  What a terrible waste.

Yes.  You can puke through your regulator.  Just be sure to chew your food
completely before regurgitating so it doesn't get stuck and block the
diaphragm from sealing.

I second the suggestion. Very bad things can happen if the diaphragm doesn't have a
good seal.

The above can be construed as personal opinion in the absence of a reasonable
belief that it was intended as a statement of fact.

Use your octopus if you're going to chuck.  If your buddy needs it,
it's his fault, anyways.

You're either going to have to get used to it or buy a full face mask.

For people who aren't quite as intense nose breathers, we simply put them in
the water with a regulator or snorkel and no mask.  You start by holding
your nose and then, eventually, learn to breathe through our mouth only
without holding your nose.  Practice in shallow water.  You're going to suck
some water into your nose before you learn not to.

How about if he just started wearing a mask out of the water?  If he started
to get nauseous, he could take it off until the nausea subsided and then put
it back on.  I bet it wouldn't take long to get used to it and be breathing
through his mouth like the rest of us.

I wish I'd thought of that.  Good idea.

I don't know that it'd work, but it'd worth a try.  Plus, he doesn't have to
be in/around water for it to be useful.

I'm going to try that, Thanks for all the sugestions everyone, i'll let
you know if it works

Paul :-)
