A suggestion for any diver on your list...newly released

"Sea Salt: Memories & Essays" (Hardcover) by Stan Waterman.

I've only had ~15 minutes to flip through the copy given to me ... read
Howard Hall's introduction (a story about a dive) and looked briefly
through the photos section in the middle.  I've always enjoyed Stan's
prose and this one promises to be a great wintertime armchair read.

It's not scuba related, but for Christmas I'm taking my parents to see the
Trans-Siberian Orchestra in concert.  For anyone who doesn't know, they're
not your typical orchestra.

If you're interested, you can get a sampling of their music here.  I'd guess
that most of ht eregulars would be very interested (even... especially?...
those of us who are rednecks).

if you have never seen them get ready to be blown away. i'm seeing them
for show #8. I was lucky enough to be at the very 1st show in Philly in
'99.

That's pretty much what I've heard from everybody.  I called my Aunt (who
lives near Dallas) to see if she was interested in going with us.  She said
that she already had tivkets (to an earlier show) and that it was her fourth
year to go.  I'm really looking forward to an amazing show.

Their current tour schedule can be viewed at

Unfortunately, it looks like you've already missed their Florida gigs at the
beginning of November.

When I get back, I'll post a "trip report."  :-)
