TX100 - 07 Dec 2005 00:27 GMT

So, would you go with them again?   :-)

How was the experience? DM quality? Reliability and/or safety? Boat quality?
You know, the  usual questions.

Thanks.

Yes I would consider myself experienced diver. DWM is above average, safe,
on time and honest. They have fast boats, knowledgeable DMs and friendly
attitude. Yes I would dive with them again.
They are not by any standard baby sitters nor they control your dive
computers. Just dive your own profile, follow the group and be a safe diver.

Ok for experienced divers (but not great), and unsafe for many
beginners, that's my experience, but I've only dived with them for a few
days with two different DMs. For experienced divers they are simply a
way to get to the reefs. For beginners, those that are feeling confident
with their diving ability and use of a computer may have the sense not
to follow the DMs stupid profiles, but what I saw was far from
responsible. Leading several almost complete novices into substantial
deco, then not completing it - of course DM wasn't diving with a
computer. I dived with my girlfriend and actually completed our deco, of
which we'd accumulated less, but I wouldn't like to see their (probably
unpublished) "safety" record. Good luck if you choose to dive with them
and don't have your own wits to rely on.

Does that answer the question?

Yeah, doesn't sound very good. I might just bite the bullet and dive with
Aldora this time. I dove with Memo once when he was on his own. Can you
recommend any operators? I'm going alone this time out.

Thanks for the answer too.

Sadly I can't recommend any others as I only had the chance to dive for
a few days the only time I've been to Cozumel, but I wouldn't choose
them again if I went back. Whilst I'm very happy to go and dive my own
profiles etc, I don't really trust an operator that exhibits such lack
of concern; what happens should an emergency situation arise?

Good luck finding an operator. I guess there's always the possibility
that they're still the best around, but I would be very disheartened if
that were the case.

You are always free to stay above the DM if his profile is not to your
liking.

I would suggest Living Underwater.  Jeremy is an outstanding DM, profiles
and dives are long but well within safe limits and he provides a lengthy
surface interval on the beach.

You would be responsible for your own safety?  Just like it's *supposed* to
be anyway...

We went with Dive Paradise... On one trip, there was only 3 of us diving, so
we could go anywhere we wanted... Nothing special about them one way or the
other... They were across from the hotel and were convenient...

I'm very happy to be responsible for my own safety, and would rather not
have it any other way, but that's me. Many people go on holiday
deliberately to get away from the responsibility, and companies that
advertise the added safety of diving with a qualified and responsible
divemaster should at least live up to that. I'm not saying that's the
right way for it to be, merely that it's sadly the norm in the
recreational diving industry these days. I'm a huge advocate of people
taking safety and responsibility into their own hands.

I've done a couple of trips with Dive Paradise.  The standard is a
large, relatiely slow boat--but they also offer computer diving on some
smaller, faster boats.  They charge more for them, but you get more
freedom.  You can also get to some of the more interesting dive sites to
the south of the island.

We went via their 6-pack boats on our recent CZM trip... All in all, they
treated me fairly... $50 for 2-tank dives and they didn't charge me extra
for the fact that each of my 'tanks' were actually 2 tanks... Actually about
1.5 tanks per dive since I would drain one tank and use about half of the
other one by the time I came up... They offered 2 full tanks per dive, but I
declined...

Oh, someone awhile back asked how sidemounts work on boat diving... Well, I
got a chance to trip it via back flips on the recent trip and would have to
say that it works, but just feels a bit different since your balance is
off...

One other thing... I like the buoyancy characteristics of my steel-72 better
than the AL80s, especially when their nearly empty...
