Happy Monday to ya.
I'm thinking about hitting Coz for a quick 3 night'r in late February,
probably on my own. I've been there a few times and stayed at the pricier
hotels but on this particular trip, I'm looking to go on the cheap.
Can anyone recommend good, clean hotel/motel operators, ideally with some
beachfront or at least well located that won't bust the bank?
Thanks!

I've stayed in the Day's Inn and found it definitely acceptable... It was
$50 per night at that time with 3 of us in it... I particularly like the
fact that the shower "stall" was big enough for 3 people which made it very
good for rinsing out dive get afterwards... Of course, the question these
days is what damage Wilma might have done to any of the hotels in Coz...

I'm just hoping that there were 5 X chromosomes in there for every Y.

Grace, Kaitlyn, myself, and two sets of dive gear (sans tanks)...

If you don't have a favorite dive shop, you could try Papa Hogs & Hog
Town Motel. Clean, CHEAP, & very basic, just walk across the street &
hop on a boat. Far enough from town to be quiet, close enough for
cheap taxi ride or rent a moped.

Hello~
Days Inn is open. Right now, after Wilma, the best bet is to stay in the
downtown area such as Suites Colonial (off town square), Suites Bahia (on
waterfront), Hotel Flamingo- these are all economy priced hotels and very
convenient. Hotel Cozumel is also open with an all-inclusive option.
Virtually all hotels on the waterfront have lost their piers and many
sustained serious damage making it impossible to load/unload at these hotels.
Staying in town, you'll be close to Aldora pier from which many operators
depart. It too has damage but is functional.
Every day more and more hotels are opening, and within two more weeks, most
hotels right downtown will be ready if they are not already. By Feb, you'll
probably not even notice that a hurricane hit downtown. If you ever dove in
Cozumel years ago, you'll remember how it used to be- everyone came to dive,
dive, dive- they stayed downtown, ate breakfast on the square, watched the
sunset from the malecon. Welcome back to that quaint, colorful Caribbean
paradise.
See you here soon we hope!

I've stayed at the Bahia across from the Aldora pier. It was $50/night and
$70 for a nice 2 bedroom suite with a huge hot tub great for washing gear.
Right downtown.
