I called DUI about the demo they are having around the country to try
one of their dry suits. I asked the fellow who answered the phone what
the size charts in the 3x, 4x, 5x, areas were. He suggested that I
contact a local dealer and get measured to find out for sure. So I
called Gerrards in Marietta and was told that I had to pay $200 for a
measurement or if I bought the dry suit that the cost would be
included in the suit. Now, I don't want to bad mouth an operator but
$200 for a measurement???? Get the F outta here. Customer service is
the name of the game and copping an attitude like that in my book is
verboten....Oh well,  no law against trying out the suits in florida
and heck, it the suits don't fit I'll get some good diving in...

MAN ... I hate defending the competition, but it isn't DUI
that wants the $200.  It is the shop.  And I really can't
blame the shop either.  Asking someone to measure you
without ordering from them is just poor taste.  You are
asking for "Customer Service" without being a customer.
Now, if you actually intended to buy the suit from Gerrards,
then just consider the $200 a deposit!

Just my $.02

Hi Ray, you make a good point but the question was "would I fit" into
a DUI suit. I did not want to spend $200 to find out that I would not
fit. And the attitude was, no pay no measure, too bad so sad...and I
think that stinks....but their rules....

Moyo, That guy's on fuckin crack (although he does have a fine dive shop),
I ran the PepBoys' across the street.

 Nobody charges for drysuit measurements.

At the demo, you'll get some cupons for some upgrades to the suit from DUI.

While it may seem excessive, I can almost understand it, in this sense:
they've probably had just one too many folks come in, do research with them,
find out what they want, then buy it off the Internet.

At the demo, DUI will have folks who can measure you.

A couple yeard ago, Gerrard had his signs changed to Gerrard Underwater
Educators.

 GUE...

Me and Kevin personally ratted him to JJ (Cliff!), but we may not have
been the first.

P.S.  You promised you'd never mention it again. ;-P

But you crawfished on me and kept going.

Sorry about the Cetaceans comment, that was über-low.

Did you have any questions relating to -MY- DIRness as opposed to yours?

I trust my resume filled out a little better that you might have thought?

$200 sounds excessive, but it is quite a bit of work to measure someone for a dry
suit and they are in the business to make a living. You can try another shop, but I
doubt anyone is going to measure you for free (unless you're a hot chick).

Measuring you should take about 15 minutes, hardly worth $200.  Sounds like
a rip off.

BTW, I just bought and Andy's drysuit because DUI customer service has gone
down the crapper.  Great suit, I'm very happy with it.

I've been measured twice, both times by the shop that ordered the suit (Diving Concepts)
for me.  I'd guess half an hour to 45 minutes.

Measure twice, cut once.

My LDS does it for fre.

Hell, you may even have to drink a beer or two while you're standing
there.

Is that "free" when you buy the suit from them, or free when you buy the suit
elsewhere?

 I dunno.

If you were to buy a drysuit at -my- LDS, it comes with a lot of
counselling and a required, free (or thrown in) drysuit class.

They'll put you in a rental suit for fit, but frequently measure for cave
cut.

They'll work with people on internet sales, especially me, and I don't
think they have a lot of problems with customer bait and switch.

I would ass-ume that the majority of the time, you're being measure (a
simple task) while you fill out the check.

 Just my assumption, though.
