I called DUI about the demo they are having around the country to try one of their dry suits. I asked the fellow who answered the phone what the size charts in the 3x, 4x, 5x, areas were. He suggested that I contact a local dealer and get measured to find out for sure. So I called Gerrards in Marietta and was told that I had to pay $200 for a measurement or if I bought the dry suit that the cost would be included in the suit. Now, I don't want to bad mouth an operator but $200 for a measurement???? Get the F outta here. Customer service is the name of the game and copping an attitude like that in my book is verboten....Oh well, no law against trying out the suits in florida and heck, it the suits don't fit I'll get some good diving in... later all Moyo > I called DUI about the demo they are having around the country to try > one of their dry suits. And I really can't blame the shop either. Asking someone to measure you without ordering from them is just poor taste. You are asking for "Customer Service" without being a customer. Now, if you actually intended to buy the suit from Gerrards, then just consider the $200 a deposit! Moyo, That guy's on fuckin crack (although he does have a fine dive shop), I ran the PepBoys' across the street. At the demo, you'll get some cupons for some upgrades to the suit from DUI. While it may seem excessive, I can almost understand it, in this sense: they've probably had just one too many folks come in, do research with them, find out what they want, then buy it off the Internet. You can try another shop, but I doubt anyone is going to measure you for free (unless you're a hot chick). BTW, I just bought and Andy's drysuit because DUI customer service has gone down the crapper. Great suit, I'm very happy with it. Jay I've been measured twice, both times by the shop that ordered the suit (Diving Concepts) for me. I'd guess half an hour to 45 minutes. My LDS does it for fre. If you were to buy a drysuit at -my- LDS, it comes with a lot of counselling and a required, free (or thrown in) drysuit class. They'll put you in a rental suit for fit, but frequently measure for cave cut. They'll work with people on internet sales, especially me, and I don't think they have a lot of problems with customer bait and switch. I would ass-ume that the majority of the time, you're being measure (a simple task) while you fill out the check. Just my assumption, though. > Adam |
