If you haven't dove the Spiegel Grove since a hurricane turned it upright,
you may have no more than a few more days to do so. Wilma, the most
powerful hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin, is on the way. The
Grove may not be upright for long. At the moment, half the computer models
show that Wilma will pass directly over my house. The other half show it
passing about 100 miles north. If it doesn't get me, it may well get
Curtis. Damn.
Lucky for both of us, Wilma is forecast to begin to decline in strength soon
and hit the west coast of Florida as a category 2 or 3. By the time it gets
across the state to Curtis or me, it may be nothing more than a strong
tropical storm . . . I hope. In a few minutes, I'll be on my way to Home
Depot to pick up a window AC unit and to the gas station to replenish my
generator fuel reserve in anticipation of more power outages
This is the first time ever, that I actually hope a hurricane hits Florida.
If it doesn't, make the predicted sharp turn, it might well target Louisiana
again and, frankly, those people just don't need any more hurricanes this
year.

I couldnt agree more. I will pray for it to level the entire state of Fla as
opposed to hitting New Orleans.

It's easy to take cheap shots on the internet, especially against woman who
have never done you any wrong.

Jesus, not while I'm driving.
I almost took out an old lady in a Buick.

Did she have blue hair? If so, go back around and try again -- she tried to
run me off the road on a bike a few years ago...

Let's don't get too carried away with all of this.
Interestingly, a hurricane would have to deposit a large volume of earth to
level New Orleans. They don't normally do that.

Things are different on Don's home planet.

Just because it is below sea level doesn't mean that it isn't level...

Hopefully, all of the South Florida crew will be subject to no more than
a TS. What I've seen will put me on the weak side of a back strike, which
means rain and possible power outages, at the very worst, but it definitely
has my attention.

We're all watching it.
I went out today to replenish my fuel supply for the generator. The 50
gallons I have should tide me over pretty well. I also followed the example
of a friend and purchased a window AC unit. My generator will run
everything but my central air system. With the window unit, at least we'll
be able to sleep comfortably.

Time to move to California--no hurricanes here. Why's the bed shaking?

Did 2 dives on her last week. It was great seeing her upright. I even spent
a few minutes in my old stateroom 03 level aft-portside.

Hello, Jim. It's been a while since we've heard from you.
BTW, you're in the doghouse now. Let's don't be coming back to the south
end of the state any more without letting your friends know you're here.
One more time and I may have to burn my Reef Diver's hat in protest. At the
very least, we can spend some time over something cold, talking over old
times.
Lee
Jim Wyatt - 23 Oct 2005 02:58 GMT
Haha - please don't burn the hat--it was a quick trip with a private class.
I was unable to log onto here for a while after I changed ISP's up here in
High Springs---then just got out of the habit.

I'm not scheduled to get down to the Keys again until mid November when I do
hope to dive the Grove for the first time. I heard that even if it's not
upright, it's still a darn good dive. That's the least I could hope for.
