Doug,
I've pulled out the drysuit again as the weather and water are both
cooling down.
I have to change my tune. My suit fits. Ideally, the calves could be a
little tighter, but there's less than an inch of extra material, no real
wrinkles, etc.
My previous experience with a drysuit was a rented DUI CF200. I could
just squeeze into the thing and that was perfect. I never had any
trouble with floaty feet. But, those dives came very soon after my
certification. I used ankle weights for the first few dives, I was not
diving a backplate and I was nowhere close to being horizontal, which is
my goal now.
Add a steel tank, backplate, remove the ankle weights and keep the 6'5"
frame and you get a configuration that can swing from head down to feet
down pretty quickly. Today I explored that and got pretty comfortable
with it. If things go as I expect, a few more dives and I'll have
really good control over it. Either that or I'll have to add gaitors,
or some such drastic measure.
My current suit is a CLX450 (the black cordura) with rock boots (they
didn't have turbo soles in my size.)
With what I know now, I would get a TLS350 (the CLX450 is heavier, not
quite as flexible and doesn't dry as fast), take an inch off the calf
measurement, and I'd probably get some attached boots from someone else,
like Diving Concepts.
My suit was measured by Tony Thomas in NYC. Don't know if he's still
doing it, but I could find out.
The votes aren't all in, but things are looking a lot rosier than they
used to.
FYI, just in case you're still considering a DUI suit.

I am, I called them earlier today, in fact (telephone tag).
The DUI is a political must for me, but they're wearing my patience even
thinner yet.
I'm on the way to Secaucus, but after a little home time next week, should
be headed out that way.
Have you met Alan Street yet?

Yeah, it ain't perfect. Just saying it is possible to get a decent suit.

Cool. Bottom temp is 51deg. Very manageable for me in a 7mm, except
that I don't get anything done at work until about 2PM, and that's after
a cup of broth and two teas...

Nope. Just been livin' in my own little world.
