i just picked up a used tabata console with depth gauge and pressure
gauge on the front and on the back is a compass and a writing board..
there is also a small "button" like guage of some kind that i THINK is
a temperature gauge. Its about an inch across, around the outer edge of
the glass "button" there's maybe a blue section of gauge, a green
section, and a red section, like a temp gauge. it seems to be filled
with a liquid of some kind, but it is black and doesnt seem to do
anything.  Ive run cold water and warm water over it and nothing
happens. I'd like to replace/repair it, but I cant find anything like
it on any of the tabata web sites.  Can anybody tell me what Ive got
and where I might be able to find a replacement?

thanks

If it's only about an inch across, my guess is that it's a dive timer.  If
so, it may have to be at pressure to work or, perhaps, has a dead battery.

I have an old tabby in my equipment bin...its the one with SPG and depth
gage consolidated into one semi-rectangular gage unit, and it has a cute
little knife with a 1.5" blade mounted on the back of the console.

I'd have to see a photo of yours to see if its the same or different
design.

Mine has a temperature gage in it, but IIRC its ~3/4" in diameter at
most, and I don't recall any color-coding on it.  It was mounted at the
6 o'clock position on one of the gage faces.  I'd have to go look at it.

FWIW, they also had an optional automatic bottom timer, which is of an
LCD type design that came on a color-matching boot that slides over he
HP hose and down over the corner of the main console.  Its not
necessarily immediately obvious that its a removable sub-assembly.  Its
gage surface is round and around an inch in diameter ... and it does
have an internal battery.

Temperature gages buried in consoles have a lot of thermal lag.

Try putting it in a bucket of ice water for a half hour.

If its the style similar to mine, its been long since discontinued and
your best hope of finding one that works is to find one used that's
still working for anything that's not simply a battery swap.
