Hello,

Has one of you already taken an Ikelite housing down to 330 feet ?

Thank you.

Stéphane asked: "Has one of you already taken an Ikelite housing down to 330
feet?"

Ikelite housings are generally rated to 165 feet. Divers are generally rated
to130 feet. Seems like the sensible answer should be "No."

I'm curious, though, as to why you want to know this. PLEASE don't tell us
you're thinking of doing this dive and want a picture for posterity.

Why not?

Stéphane is from France.
French divers are rated to 165ft.

Hmmmm, I'd encourage 165 meters on air, not that I dislike the French or
anything.

Uh, divers are rated to 130'?

Where's that one written?

You are correct on the Ike housings, generally, however.  My understanding
is that the port will be the first part of the housing to fail according to
their design criteria.

I have a feeling he's thinking along the lines of "if you have to ask,
you don't know enough to safely use the answer".

Of course, on the Ike housings, it would make a difference which
one... video/SLR or the Auto35 :)

My TRV housing is solid as a rock.

Hi Ken,

If you want to have  a look at 330 feet deep pictures just go through some
of my web pages. Most of these pictures are video captured since my video
housing stands easily over 450 feet (didn't go yet). That will not bring me
posterity, so far it just gave me a lot of fun. The point is I have the
possibility to buy a second hand Ikelite housing for a digital still camera
that I own, and I was wondering about the real depth ability of this
housing.

Another web site with over 330 feet deep wreck pictures :
http://www.deepimage.co.uk/

Have safe dives.

I asked Ike Brigham, the owner of ikelite that question directly in
2002... he said the SLR cases are good down to 200 feet, maybe 250 if
everything goes perfect. But to be careful about how the control arms
are placed as they will be pressing down on the camera. You don't want
them pressing on any control that will lock up the camera

The substrobes can go to 300-feet, maybe more.

If you want clarification or have further  questions, write him directly
at Ike@ikelite.com

We had one jam at around 75m or so - it was fine on the 65m dive the day
before, dunno what that is in feet, but it's nowhere near 300ft.
You might have to go for a custom made one for beyond that.

At about 240 feet (umm, 80 meters) the control rods are pretty much
unusable.
