Needless to say I like to be calm before I go out into the water. Recently a
friendo of mine that works with Universal gave me a copy of Ronan Tynan's CD.
I really like it, I find it relaxing and something I can easily listen to
before I go out. I was curious, though, because I hadn't heard much about it.
Has anyone else around here heard his music? What do you think of it?

If you've no idea who I'm talking about I believe his website (
www.drronantynan.net) has some clips and you may know him from when he sings
the national anthem at Yankee games.

Now that we got rid of Deeper Blue, can we do something about this
ScubaMonster crap?

Greg...  Elizabeth M is Ronan's sister.  She's only trying to help a
brother out.  LOL

Personally,  if I want to listen to music that is calming to the point
of hypnotic mediation,  I listen to a CD that I got while in Bali of
traditional Bali music.   I'd be happy to send you a copy.  It's
certainly not jazz, opera, rock n roll, country, blues, blue grass,
gospel, soul, rap, disco, dance, heavy metal, or Yanni.  It's in a
catagory all it's own but, IMHO,  is kinda close to Japanese "tea
music".

Simon & Garfunkel... CSN&Y... Moody Blues... Pink Floyd... Stevie Nicks /
Fleetwork Mac

I set up my web server to wake me up in the morning by playing a series of
songs that I've ripped from my CD collection... Starts off fairly soft and
builds up...
1 -- Led Zeppelin -- "Going to California"
2 -- Sting -- "Fields of Gold"
3 -- Simon & Garfunkle -- "The Sound of Silence"
4 -- Simon & Garfunkle -- "Scarborough Fair"
5 -- Simon & Garfunkel -- "Boxer"
6 -- Fleetwood Mac (Stevie Nicks) -- "Landslide"
7 -- Fleetword Mac (Stevie Nicks) -- "Rhiannon"
8 -- Melissa Eldridge -- "Breakdown"
9 -- Melissa Eldridge -- "Angles Would Fall"
10 -- Willie Nelson -- "Living in the Promiseland"
11 -- Toby Keith & Willie Nelson -- "Beer for my Horses"
12 -- Willie Nelson -- "City of New Orleans"
13 -- Toby Keith -- "Should've Been a Cowboy"

Basically an hour of steadily increasing volume and tempo to wake me up
gently instead of having a damn buzzer go off in my ear and then me knocking
the alarm across the room... Works pretty good other than the fact that it
takes all the way until #8 before I'm really awake... The earlier songs are
so relaxing that I just fall deeper to sleep...  Oh well, it seemed like a
good idea at the time...

No wonder you're so imbalanced.

You need to throw in some Tinsley Ellis, Little Charlie and the Nightcats,
Saliva, Staind, Tom Waits,White Zombie, Coco Montoya, Patti Loveless, Jim
Thackery and the Drivers, Sarah Brightman and, of course, ZZ Top.

And really, you have to have Wild Cherry doing "Play that funky music white
boy."

If you like I can burn you a cd or dvd...

ZZ Top would be pretty good... Santana  would be good early on since they're
kind of mellow...

Interesting title for a song... was she really into geometry or what?  ;-)

Hey gal!

Me, I'm trying to think of the last time I saw any diver on the boat with a
discman plugged in.   I know for sure I haven't seen any shore divers
soothing themselves with mellow tunes prior to a dive.

For me the dive mellows me out . . .the sound of my breathing, my bubbles
and the water . . . now that's calming.

Still didn't hear about your trip.

The narcosis is more like having had a couple of martinis.  Makes me feel
randy once I'm back up on the boat. All that calm, shot to hell.

Yeah, Barb, when are ya gonna report on your trip?

How can one defend oneself unless you say what you have to say?

You could start with the kidnapped moose.

Or the diveskin fashion show.

I'll correct you as needed.

You know that I hardly ever finish a trip report.  I've posted just a
few completed trip reports.  I posted several  "part one"  sections to
trip reports and then never completed them.  It's no reflection on the
trip...  it's just that I can't get it together enough to have the time
to write it.    Now, here's the funny thing... I actually started
writing a trip report last nite !!   Then,  I got tired.  I didn't hit
'save'   and so before I knew it,  I had the  " I hit the wrong button
and deleted everything blues ".   I doubt that I'll be writing it all
over again real soon.  Hahahahahahaha

I'm sure you can defend yourself.  I saw you do it when the video guy
stuck a camera in your face and imposed on you.  You did a fine of job
of defending your right to tell him to get lost... but you did it
nicely.  LOL

I had nothing to do with kidnapping that moose !!   You know that's
true !!   I admit that I questioned y'all about how one would know if
the moose had been raped.  That was a silly question and the answer
y'all gave me led me to severe laughter.  But I was innocent of the
actual crime.

As for the diveskin fashion show,  I might be guilty as charged.  I
have even more diveskins than the ones you saw me wearing.  Hey...I
have to amuse myself somehow without getting into trouble.  LOL

And yes,  I know you'll correct me.  So,  that just means that  ** you
**  should post the trip report !!  You have a much better way with
words.

I actually can't believe that we went on the trip and are home for
several weeks now.  Time is flying by !!

Thank you so much for inviting me.  It was great !!    I have to get
hub to sort out our pictures yet.  Post-trip party....

I didn't say I needed to defend myself. Just that "one" can only defend
"oneself" once the offense has been put out there.

Did you think I was being defensive with Bill the Camera Guy? I just
told him I "almost" saw the sharks.

I don't know anything. The moose came back and never explained what had
happened.

As far as I know no rape kit was done, and probably Michelle was just
happy to have him back and didn't ask any more questions.

And it was Matt that almost killed you with laughter. I tried to warn
you not to ask the question. But you went right ahead anyway, even
knowing that Tom had nearly killed me the night before when he talked
about smokin' Cubans.

You're dangerous people. Whether you kidnapped the moose or not, you are
really dangerous. That's why I love ya.

I've got good pictures of your entry in the show, and good ones of
Dominique, but I never got Bill in his tiger skin, unfortunately. I
should have gotten all three of you lined up at some point, but I was
too busy shooting sponges and stuff.

Nah, I just like disagreeing with people. And I have to wait for them to
say something I can disagree with. As I have done here.

It's true, but my post-trip depression was relieved when the new job
came through. I've been trying to call you. E-mail me for details.

Same here. Still working on slide show. We were all glad that you guys
and Matt and Dawn all joined up. It made the trip so much more fun,
albeit dangerous. I gotta practice my underwater tightrope walking...

Talk soon.

I didn't think you were defensive at all. Not one bit. I wondered how
you came up with the commentary that you gave him so dang fast.  You
were like a guy on Comedy Central.  :)

I think Bill's dive skin was the absolute best !! Dominique said she
was gonna send a pic of us into the lady who owns the company. I wonder
if she did.  LOL

Don't tell me that you're getting that "I Wanna Argue Flu".  I had that
forever.  It's fun sometimes.

I'll phone you this week from work.

The underwater tightrope walking... now how extremely cool was cool was
that ?!!  Leave it up a bumpkin from Kentucky who is now married to and
living with a bumpkin in Ohio.  :)  As you know, Matt / Dawn and hub
and I travel at times with a group of 12 divers.  Well... our
counterparts didn't favor as well as we did on their liveaboard trip
last week, partly due to the hurricane and partly due to a GI virus.
I've come to the conclusion that any dive trip I take where :

1. I don't get bent, die or get sick
2. Friends of mine don't get bent, die or get sick
3. Nothing from the ocean or land attacks me
4. I enjoy the ppl on the trip without wanting to pull out their reg
and drown them

is a good trip !!  If I can look back and smile on it, then it was a
good trip indeed.  <smiling at you big time>

Any flight you walk away from ended with a landing.

In these times of weird terrorism acts, you are so right !!  I hate to
say this but :  I want to visit my uncle in North Carolina again soon.
He's the uncle that I went to live with two years ago so that I could
care for my aunt/his wife who had end-stage cancer. I met rec.scuban
Jim Frei on that trip.  At any rate, I don't really want to spend the
cash to fly down to NC and I don't want to put the miles on my car to
drive down.  Several years ago, hub and I did a dive shop trip for the
North Carolina wrecks where the store van drove us down and we dove for
the weekend.  Then my uncle picked us up there and he brought us back
to his house for a few days. When it was time to come home, my uncle
drove us to the Amtrack station and we took the train home.  It worked
out very well. So this time, I thought maybe I'd take the train down
and back. Now they pull this stuff in London.  I dunno.  If those
dickweeds decide to bomb the "north corridor" for Amtrack, we'd be in
trouble for a while.

Hi chillybean !!!!

I don't think I've ever seen a diver at all with discman.  I guess the
divers that I know don't care about music either.  LOL

I don't listen to music before a dive.  I agree that sometimes diving
is relaxing.  The dives that are a bit harrowing like my  'whisk'  in
Indonesia wasn't relaxing until I saw the turtle and decided that if I
died then so be it.  LOL   Re: music,  actually I hardly listen to
music at all anymore.   I listen to news during my work commute,  or to
NPR or a talk-radio channel.   At home, I prefer the silence... or the
noise of crickets chirping, owls hooting, horses baying, roosters
crowing or even a tractor mowing in the distance.  I usually find
music, TV, phones, etc to be unwelcomed noise and so I seek to quiet
them whenever possible. The rare occasion exists when I wish to hear
music but then it's music of my choice via one of my CDs on my stereo
or thru a Directv station. The music of my choice might be anything
from Jimi Hendrix to Frank Sinatra.   I used to be a jogger who wore a
headset to listen to music while I ran.  Now I don't even like to walk
with a headset on.  I dunno.  Age does funny things I guess.  :)

When I want to mellow out, I turn to the Red Hot Chili Peppers "Blood,
Sugar, Sex, Magic" album.

It goes something like this...

"I don't ever want to feel,
like I did that day,
Take me to the place I love...
Take me all the way"

Although, when I go diving, I am a "type A" person... I do like the
musical selections. My musical tastes run all over the place. But, the
bulk of my listening is with the "softer" kind of music.
I just hope the recording is of a high standard. Nothing like listening
to an over engineered, harsh digital CD on close to $10g's of stereo
equipment.

I still have my vinyl rig (VPI turntable, Koetsu Black Goldline and
Grado Platinum) and love the way it sounds. I have bought CD's of the
same recordings (for the most part, recorded in analog, some digital)
and the vinyl just sounds better. Yes, the ticks and pops are there.
And, you can't easily skip tracks without getting out of your chair, but
it is about the sound.
I do have some excellent CD's that I enjoy, but Monty Alexander Full

How can music which reminds one only of the dentists office be calming
to anyone? Relax .. Mellow Out .. Enjoy your root canal..

I still get tense and angry every time I hear ABBA..

The Ramones on the other hand..
