Interupt the debates for a dive?

Limey - 13 Jul 2005 16:33 GMT Hey kids, just spent a few minutes running though some of the recent posts.....interesting and amusing as always. However, I'm starting to think about trying to get a smallish group of the usual suspects together for a dive, say on the newly renovated Spiegel Grove, within the next few weeks. As always, anybody is welcome to be around at any time, but I'd particularly be interested to hear from ESG, LB, RS, CB and DF if you're travelling this way. As usual, I'd love to discuss politics, religion and show off our small arms in the venue these things are meant to be done, in the bar after the dive. The SO's almost always add more than their fair share of color to the meetings so lets try and bring some of them too. I understand that Capt Slate has a treasure hunt type thing going on at the end of the month but this may be too short notice for some (possibly including myself) and he may not have availability, I just don't know. If the numbers are small, there's a possibility I can have the use of a six pack that I could trailer down so long as there's enough interest to help cover the costs. Now, sorry for the interuption.....as you were.

I already suggested to Bill from Atlanta, who says he's headed down this way, that we try to do it on Friday. I'm not sure, however, that Friday will work given the Park's request for voluntary closing of the Spiegel until they can figure out if it's safe or not. Guess they think it's going to fall on somebody.
I've got plans for Saturday. RS will be in town this weekend through next weekend. I think I've heard ESG mention he would have liked to do it with us last time except for health issues. Maybe he's better now. When we did it last, BS was out of the country. He and the ms. might be interested as well. DB may or may not be available soon. If he is, I'll bet he will join us. He like wrecks much better than reefs, but not as much as that silly fresh water diving he does upstate. I'm sure, if I thought long enough, I'd figure out who DF is, but it escapes me at the moment.

Yeah, and rethinking that offer after I made it, prolly wasn't a smart one. Between the difficulty of nav and finding a decent, suitable ramp down there, your two-pack might be a better idea. If the group show interest, we'll stick to the pro's.

DB is a missed key punch. I meant CB. I should have guessed DF, but he's been Popeye to me for a lot longer than he's been what's his name.

If the group show > interest, we'll stick to the pro's. The pros are probably cheaper. Navigation shouldn't be a problem. I have enough GPSs to outfit a fleet. Ramps are easy to find if you have the right kind of GPS. There are a couple of free ones, but I hesitate to leave my boat and trailer unprotected. I pay in order to hide my property along with that of other day boaters.

I have

There is a new Garmin (with card) on the boat I was thinking about, though I only have 2WD so a decent ramp is a must, it's a fairly heavy boat. Either that or some help from someone with a 4X. Give me a buzz if you have any input.

Lee Bell - 14 Jul 2005 22:46 GMT >> The pros are probably cheaper. Navigation shouldn't be a problem. > Doubt it. Not if there's 4-6 of us anyway. Probably right. I'm used to thinking in terms of two and comparing to what it costs to get my 32 footer to a dive site. As I recall, we figured that somewhere around 3 divers made renting a boat about a wash and 4 made it better than doing it with a diver operator. Renting is an option too.

They do OK for my 15 and 10 footers thanks to limited slip differential, but I'm not looking for a chance to try them on a slick ramp with a heavy boat. My 4WD Cherokee is no running at present.

cavey_curtis@$$ yahoo.com - 18 Jul 2005 01:09 GMT Not that I was debating, but I did interrupt today to go diving for the last lime for a few weeks.
Water temp 82-91 deg F, thermocline broken up into "cool pockets".
Seas mild overall, rough fot this type of diving.
Hot and sunny, several swims to cool off between drops.
Spent about 9 hours at sea.
21 FSW max for 33 minutews total, 4 drops plus a couple of shuttles.
Vis 6 inches to 4 feet.
Surge very noticeable, propwash moderate and verticle.
Dove my primary set of dub AL80s, 32%.
Wore 3 mil wetsuit, 2 mil hood and gloves.
Sea life observed, none.
Had a hell of a lot of fun, go figure.......

Maybe there needs to be a new specialty course?

Right now, just trying to figure out how to install Jetfins on crutches, in true "anybody can dive" form. <evil grin>

All that said, there's nothing like the good stuff. I remember a while ago, after the surgery, I was on Percocet. I still hurt like hell, but I . . . just . . .didn't . . .care. :^) I completely understood how people could get hooked on it. In fact, I was quite agitated when I wasn't prescribed more.

prescription seemed useless after that wore off, and have to say stopped those on the morning after. After the initial swelling went down and wrap came off, preferred not to use anything, although have to confess to some hot chocolate with butterscotch shots last night. :-)
Kind of nice to be able to just turn it down mentally.

Otherwise, we just need a boat where Mr Padi isn't making the rules, and dub AL80s are welcome. ;-)
