I am a newly qualified OW diver looking to get my first computer.
Looking at computers on the market I have been eyeing up the Suunto
Mosquito.  It has all the functions of the Vyper but in a package that
i can wear on a more day to day basis in between dives.  My only
concern is that of being able to read the display.  Has anyone used
this computer and can they let me know of how it performs and how they
have found the display to read whilst diving?

I found the display too small.

I'm using the Mosquito for a year now and i'm quite satisfied with it.
It performs great in both Air and Nitrox mode.
The display is quite easy to read whilst diving and the buttons are
also easy to operate (even with gloves) so if it gets to dark you can
turn on the backlight.

The only minus is the volume of the warning sounds. It is sometimes
hard to hear it over the sound of your exhalation.

But to summarize, its a great computer for a good price.

I have had one for 4 years now.  I think the display size is fine.  I agree
with the other poster that the audible alerts are uselessly quiet.

Some con's:
The face plate easily scratches... it will get scratched.
Wearing it everyday increases wear and tear... it will get flooded.  Mine
did but was replaced for free.
It's easy to forget to put it on or worse lose it in the back seat of a taxi
( oops, it did happen )

Some pros:
Your computer is seperate from your console so if you need to switch regs or
something you can
It's nice having a backup depth gauge
Really nice battery life
Good functionality

Would I buy a mosquito again?  Oh I dont know, I've been happy with it
enough that I havn't been reading up on other models so I guess so. But it
was one of my last purchases.  If you have a nice cheap bottom timer and
tables that's all you really need.

I've had my mosquito for about 4 years and am pleased with the watch. I
think it's a bit too big to wear while non-diving but between dives no
problem. Of course you do have to remove it if you want to take off
your wet suit, just like any watch.

The display could be bigger but it works for me. With 5mm gloves it's
harder to hit the buttons but it's workable and the backlight works
well. Battery lasts a long time but you do have to mail it in to get it
serviced: www.underseas.com

I prefer a watch to a console, and I'd buy a mosquito again.

The Mosquito battery is easily user serviceable.  Replacement kits can
be found here:

http://www.suuntowatches.com/batterykit.htm

and include the battery, o-ring and cover.

Easy to read, simple to use, and if you're in a shortie suit the sleeves
won't snag and you can easily leave it on between dives. Cheap plastic
covers (it will come with one) will protect against face scratches if
that's a concern, but they can distort the figures a little. Very clear
backlight for night dives.

Shop around - got mine at simplyscuba.com who are always reliable,
prompt and send e-mail confirmations of orders and depatch.

Get the "magnifying" lens protector.  I have used one for several
years and it is fine.

I think the Suunto Mosquito looks cool and seems to have all the
functions albiet small display HOWEVER I don't trust Suunto on their
computers.  First they have known problems:
http://www.suuntoservice.com/safetynotice/diving/
and second they have known problems they don't speak of such as a
freezing problem of their Cobra computers.   I know because mine, S/N
527334 froze at 85ft on me.   no buttons worked and even when I
removed it from the regulator, it still showed the pressure of over
2500PSI.   I returned it to my dive shop who informed me they had at
least one more returned for the same reason.   It's been at the shop
months now and I finally found out because I didn't provide my sales
receipt, they didn't do a thing despite the fact that by the S/N they
know it's less than a year old plus the unsafe condition of the
device, you'd think they would have done something.   Additiionally
there is nothing on their website about this problem.   Of course no
one asked me about my safety either so apparently Suunto isn't
concerned with your safety or the safety of their dive computers nor
are they willing to share their safety issues online.  I would never
even consider buying another Suunto dive computer.   Suunto used to
make great oil filled compasses but my suggestion is not to trust them
with your safety using their dive computers.    I have two Oceanic
dive computers also, one VEO 250 and one PRO and have never had a
problem with them.
