Curtis - 05 Jun 2005 18:58 GMT Perfect weather yesterday, rain & overcast, great for keeping the swimming only crowd down. Did a "quickie", 120 ffw for 14, 30 min TDT (bud using single 80), then a few shallow minutes down the run to shorten the walk. Used 31% in dub AL80s, 3 mil full, 2 mil hood. Water was 74 deg, vis around 75 ft, fair number of fish in spring & run, bikini count zero. :-(
Have all 3 sets of dubs ready for a busy summer, starting next weekend.
Y'all diving or just talking?

It's really 25 more days before I leave for a 9-day Cocos liveaboard, but since I have to spend the weekend before in Denver for a cousin's wedding, the upcoming travel is getting closer than I like given my current workload. Therefore, no time to waste playing in the cold local Pacific waters when I'll be doing 25+ dives in warm remote Pacific waters in a few weeks.
Curtis - 05 Jun 2005 20:57 GMT > Therefore, no time to waste playing in the cold local Pacific waters when > I'll be doing 25+ dives in warm remote Pacific waters in a few weeks. Our local waters are never cold and dark, and never a waste of time.

Tonight will be the main epicurian (sic) event...sthere's still (just) enough time for you to drive down to make it in time, although the weather's still going to be a factor for such a drive.

I'm back in the water next Thursday (but inland) and on Sunday I'm going back to observe the cuttlefish (without newbies this time).
Only 3 more weeks and I'm on Borneo...

Our largest armour clad cruiser sunk by German mine during WWI. Since it was my buddies AOW "deep" dive, stayed above 100'. Vis was about 40' with water temp a wonderfully comfortable (for us dry suit divers) in the upper 40's. The dive lasted about 30minutes. The second dive was the Reggie, a busted up steel wreck in 100' of water. This was the lobster dive. Thousands of schooling porgies, very large sea bass, a few black fish, and of course, what we came for... lobsters. Vis was 50'. Oh and a few sharks were spotted. Awesome!

> 40' on the SD? outstanding. Before I leave here forever for the South, > maybe we can get together for a dive, even though I'm a bleeding heart > Clinton Liberal (and fairly DIR)? Yep... 40'! I have been on it when it was more. And lots of times when it has been less. We tied in on the "dark" side. I don't usually dive that side. All the "action" is on the "light" side except for the blast hole. The stern is rapidly deteriorating and collapsing towards the bow. Penetration is, for me "iffy" since the bulkheads are real filmsy back there. But, rest of the wreck is doing fine. The Reggie was a lobster hunt dive. 100' at the sand. Steel wreck flattened all over the place. Easy to get "lost". This time of year, before the "warmer" waters come, the vis on most dives off shore is excellent. As for diving with me? No problem! We don't talk politics on the boat. As for gear config's... just don't look at us and where we stick stuff (reels, liftbags, catch bags, crowbars, hammers and whatever danglies we can add to our non-dir stand rigs!) everywhere!! Oh, and don't look to hard at the "bondage" wings either!

Sounds like a great time except for that sub-50 deg part.......I'm not as big a WWW as the guys down south of me, but if it's too cold to be in contact with the water, it's too cold to dive. :-)

The warmer things get, ususally, the vis drops to the normal 20-30' range. After suiting up in a dry suit on a hot deck.. I'm dying to get to the colder water to cool off!
ben bradlee - 07 Jun 2005 00:14 GMT > Y'all diving ? Sunday, late afternoon, 100' 72 minutes total dive time. Monday, close to noon, 124' 82 minutes. Only took one set of tanks and those were about 700# from full. (80's) Water temperature is a balmy 40 degrees at depth. Haven't seen a 39 for over a week. There were a few divers, none in bikinis. The bass are fun to watch in there nests. Yesterday an eagle was swooping not 20' from shore picking off shallow swimming fish. I see one dead in the sand on the bottom so I suppose the eagle went hungry. A loon is there every day and you can hear the faint buzz of mosquitoes and other flying vermin as you suit up. I guess that qualifies a diving.

All manner of magnificent creatures, a couple of which I can't name. I shall have to a diligent internet search as soon as I start to feel better. Apparently, I've returned with yet again, another Honduran flu/pneumonia.

I'm taking Choraquine but I started it a bit late, I think. Regardless of that, my hands are breaking out in little fluid filled bumps . . . just like the kind I get when I drink too much tonic water. Mere coincidence?
