Hello everybody!
This is the first time I've posted to rec.scuba (and the first time to
use a newsgroup at all...).
I am finished with my studies (mathmatics and sports, beeing a
teacher) and I would love to get in the diving-business now. I took
some classes at university but only three open-water-dives and no
certificate.
I wonder if it is possible to find a diving school, where I could get
an diving-education and work there in return.
Can you tell me, if something like that is possible or is that an
illusion?
I am so clueless!
Greetings!

His first newsgroup use and he manages to stumble in to rec.scuba. I pity
the guy.
Good luck on finding that education/job thing your looking for. One
suggestion... learn how to make good coffee.

It is possible to get a job in the dive industry.
Getting a job that pays well...not so easy.
Your first step really is to get your diving certificate and to do some
more diving, to see if you really truly enjoy it, or if it is merely a
fun novelty. Your teacher's job will be how you pay for this. After a
few years, you can then decide if you want to keep diving as a
recreational hobby, or if you want to get more into the "business" side.
If you do, expect that a lot of your work will be standard "retail shop"
types of stuff...especially since you'll be the new guy, for every hour
of diving, expect to work 5-10 hours behind a counter.

I was told that the diving "industry" is where a large fortune can be
made into a small one.

Diving as a profession is either a fun way to starve to death
(instructor or DM, or both) or a miserable way to die (welder, etc).
I'd just get certified and go enjoy some great diving.
