David Gintz - 14 Mar 2005 01:02 GMT Anybody have any recommendations on trip insurance plans? I'll be doing a week on the Cayman Aggressor IV and it has been suggested to me that trip insurance would be a good thing. This would be to protect against loss in case I had to cancel for some reason (injury, etc.) and to protect against lost luggage etc.
Thanks in advance.

It has some interesting enhancements and includes chamber rides to boot. I'm not sure it will be as comprehensive as you want but if memory serves, it's pretty good, and runs for a full year for the premium.

> They will if you upgrade to their Preferred Plan. DAN's trip cancellation coverage is only for illness or accidents. If that's the only thing that could possibly prevent you from going, great. OTOH, if you live in a world where a hurricane could wipe out your destination, a snowstorm could delay your plane, your kid could get sick right before the trip, or your 87 year old mother might check out you'll need to explore other options if you think trip insurance is worth it.

What DAN offers as trip cancellation coverage is indeed what I am planning on getting but not from them. There are better plans for less money.
I'm interested in protecting against illness or injury (or other unforeseen events) which might make me lose my 2600 (or so) dollar investment. For around $100, I can be protected.
Thanks to all.

DAN Preferred Plan cost $70/year covering medical cost, transportation, extra accomodation, lost diving equipment, up to $10K for dive vacation cancellation and $5K for dive vacation interruption. I had compared the plan with trip insurance cost for a single trip at various time and had always decided to go with DAN especially since we take more than one dive trip per year.

Well, I must have misread the information on the transportation stuff and have ordered a $104 policy. Thanks to all for the information.

Becky - 27 Mar 2005 21:17 GMT Last time I checked, DAN trip insurance covers only YOU. If your travel partner can't go for some reason, you're not covered. If you travel single, that's OK, but if my husband is too sick to travel, I'll probably be staying home with him. The more commercial travel insurances cover canceling your trip because a partner or your family is ill.

That's why I've gone with a commercial insurance company instead.
Thanks.

JOF - 14 Mar 2005 14:29 GMT >> Anybody have any recommendations on trip insurance plans? > >It is silly to buy insurance against losses you can afford. That's the trick, isn't it, weighing the cost versus benefit? When you factor in the probability of actually having a claim some of the things we insure are kinda long odds.
In fact the odds are so much in favour of the product seller/supplier that some self insure in expectation of making a profit on the premiums they collect.

Wes Adams - 28 Mar 2005 04:59 GMT Travel Guard. A $2000.00 trip runs about $90.00. (if age is less that 50) Have used this company for many years and even had to make a claim which was handled promptly and no complaints.
