I like my dive instructor and his store is nice and well stocked, but holy
crap, the difference in prices there versus say Liesurepro.com is too large
to ignore. For instance, a ScubaPro Classic Plus BC is $781 at the store,
$534 online. Regulators, computers, wet and dry suits the same 30-40%
difference in price. When I am done buying my stuff, it is going tobe like
over $1000 difference, easy. Some sites are implying or warning that
Scubapro (have not checked ont he other brands yet) will not warranty their
stuff unless it is bought literally "over the counter". What's the deal?
Thanks for ideas on good sites to buy from that will offer/honor manufacture
warranties.

show him the price from LP, (or the LP website) then let him make you a
better deal. Give him a chance to try, at least. You might be suprised.
And, it generates goodwill.

Most of LeisurePro's equipment is not warranteed. Here's some info from
Dive Rite you might find interesting:

You can find excellent prices on scuba equipment that is warranteed at our
website DiverWest http://www.diverwest.com The problem you mention is an
interesting one, this past week we were told by one of our suppliers that
we had to raise our prices on some of their equipment sold on our website.
This happened because dive shop owners complained to the manufacturer that
they couldn't make enough money on the product if they had to compete with
online sellers. This is a similar argument you hear from mom & pop stores
who can't compete with Walmart or Costco. The fact of the matter is that
people want the best prices and there's nothing wrong with that. Why should
a diver like yourself be punished with high prices because dive shops don't
think they're making enough money. Dive shops need to concentrate on what
they do best: instruction, dive trips, rentals etc. Scuba diving is already
an expensive sport. It's too bad people who would like to learn to dive are
being turned away by the price gouging at some dive shops.

Of course, scuba.com specifically regards themselves as lp's #1 competitor.
Hardly an unbiased source.

Some retailers will match the price of LP and other online dealers. One in
Jupiter, FL will match prices. The owner is a great guy, (even without the
end of his pinky finger), who uses what he sells everyday, i.e.. he know
what he sells works.
I buy most of my gear from this shop and dive with them several times a
year. Never a dull dive!
Good advice, to check your local shops for price matching, some will, some
won't. I don't mind paying a little extra now and then to the local shop as
without them, it would suck. But, one of the local shop charges more than
MSRP and I just won't buy there!

"The deal" is that many manufacturers engage in restraint of trade, and have
found ways around the laws prohibiting that.
Leisurepro is not an authorized dealer. They thus can do whatever the f.ck
they want, and SP is powerless to stop them, since they're not the supplier
of the product (they can't cut them off - although I'm sure they'd like to!)
Its the same product.
Its your money. You earned it. If you want to pay the extra to make your
dive instructor happy, or believe you will get some kind of superior
service worth the extra money, then go ahead and pay it.
If not, buy online.
