Is there a diver out there who has an ostomy bag . My wife and I are going
to the Dominican in April and will be taking our open water dives to
fullfill our dive cert. We are worried what may happen to the bag in deep
water.
We have consulted the DAN and werent given the info we need , probably cuz
there is not a diver there that has the ostomy. We do not speak or read
Spanish so please respond in English.
Thanks Jeff and Cindy

Look again, I found several references to Ostomy on the DAN website.

Tal vaz no encuentra qualquier informaci?n que busca porque les falta la
inteligencia para hacer un "web search" facil.  In este caso, recomiendo que
le llaman a DAN y habla con una persona viva quien responde a todas sus
preguntas m?dicas.  ?OK?

It's (almost) a requirement that you speak mexican if you live in
southern cal. we'd be far better off if we just gave everything south of
the monteray peninsula back to mexico.

And all this time I thought we had.  I know I need a passport to drive
south of New Braunfels on I35.

I have a hard time understanding the thought patterns of some of the
respondents to my previous question to a very sensitive subject. Dillon ,
what does your comment have to do with the question I asked. If you have any
information on ostomy and scuba diving respond or else try a different site
to give your childish feedback

Please don't top-post.  It's childish.

BTW, if you're so sensitive about crapping out a hole in your side, why post
about it in public?  Did you think rec.scuba was the place to ask your
questions because there are a lot of a.sholes here?

It bad manners to top post in this group.

I rather agree with Greg Mossman ( God, that's frightening!! ),
If you're so sensitive about, it why post Here? other than because this
group is full of a.sholes that don't work also.

As for the actual post - he was responding to ME not you ( and I was
resonding to someone else , Not you again, who was responding to someone
else , and guess what? that wasn't you either )- it may damage your
sensitivity but You don't Own a thread just because you made the first post.

Hi Jeff !!  You don't say what kind of ostomy you are speaking of... a
colostomy or ileostomy, or urostomy.   What typpe is it ??
Regardless, I think that if you have a  'standard'  ostomy and you can
make sure the seal is tight at the body site and that there is little
air in the collection bag, you should be alright.  If I were you, I'd
probably apply more stoma adhesive than usual or do some aditional
dressing with something like Bio-Oclusive around the site.  I'd make
sure that there was little to no air in the bag before diving.  Now...
if you have a catheter-feeding device from your stoma that leads into
the bag, then you should check with the manufacturer of the device to
make sure that it will be ok under pressure at depth.  I wish you and
your wife a safe and fun trip !!  :)
