Henderson Ice Cap question

I have recently been attempting to use a Henderson ice cap under my
regular wetsuit hood, and my mask seems to keep flooding, at times
almost uncontrolable. The mask fits with moderate tightness to my head,
and the mask seems to fit well to the ice cap. Have tried smooth rubber
side out, and also tried foam neoprene side out. Mask still floods like
crazy.

Anyone have this problem, and finding a cure to share with the group?

I should mention that I have ponytail type hair, and have been allowing
the ponytail to stick out from under the ice cap. Have not had the chance,
but would pushing all hair up under the ice cap help solve the problem?
Maybe water is coming in at back, and going along side the cap? Doesn't
feel cold back there however.

Please cut off the ponytail and try again. If it cures the problem, you can
thank me. If not, at least you'll look better.

The hell of it is that I am half Icelandic, and half Native American
(Tuscarora Nation) which mandates a ponytail to be a stereotypical
indian or viking. Hahaha, it was just a tad shorter when I served 12
years as an ET7 radar tech. 3 GC's and three gold stripes. Fix my
flooding mask problem, and I'll tweak your Raytheon radar for ya!

SPS-10s and LN-66s were my specialty (i.e. I got stuck when 'em)... As far
as you mask, just ensure that the mask skirt is below all the wetsuit hoods
and you should be ok... Then again, I've got a mustache and beard, so a
leaking mask is something that I've just learned to live with...

I've used an ice cap for a few years now. The only time water has entered
my mask is if the seal is not tight between the mask and surface of the ice
cap. This will occur if the mask is improperly installed or if you adjust
the mask allowing water to enter to rinse or similar reason. The smooth
side of the ice cap goes out. When your mask is installed, gently breath in
thru your nose. You should not be able to breath in. If you can breath in
there is a leak. Adjust the mask to determine if the leak is by the seal or
behind the ice cap. I have zero air entering the mask from behind my ice
cap and zero water entering from around the seal when properly fitted; no,
don't have a ponytail either. A common misalignment area is below the nose
on the narrow strip between your mouth and nose. It is relatively common to
get the mask seal over the edge of the outer hood. Take your fingers and
lift the outer hood from each side of your mouth to the top of your head to
be sure the seal is fitted properly on the ice cap only.
