Are there any good sites with trust worthy reviews out there? I am having a
bit of a problem deciding on gar as most of the sites all say good things
about he items being reviewed...

Cheers

<snicker>

You probably should have researched that a bit before you put your foot in
your mouth like that... A more accurate statement would be that they do good
gear reviews FOR THEIR ADVERTISERS...

What evidence do you have for that?

Past experience?

Depends upon your definition of 'evidence'... What one convince one person
might not convince another person... Here's a link... We've discussed this
in detail on previous topics and some people are convinced, some refuse to
be convinced by *anything*...

http://www.forcefin.com/FF_PAGES/FF_wisewords/rodalesuit.htm

Of particular note is the next to last paragraph:

<snip>
Statements made by Dane Farnum, Publisher, Rodale's Scuba Diving regarding
the suit conclude with the statement that "Rodale's Scuba Diving will
continue to publish the only comparative scuba equipment evaluations
available in the United States." The evaluations are not characterized as
"independent", "objective" or "unbiased" as was objected by Bob Evans
Designs, Inc.
</snip>

End result is that yes, Rodales does compare things, but one should
understand that there might be some bias in their comparisons... At the very
least, it is a place where one might see what items might be currently
available for the recreational market... Don't hold your breath on waiting
for them to do a review of various backplates though... <grin

Rodale's is no Consumer Reports and obviously accepts advertising and is a money
making outfit. Also some brands refuse to submit their products for testing. For
example ScubaPro at one time or currently is one of them. It's not surprising the
ratings are biased to some extent by advertising pressure.

Nevertheless when it comes to scuba gear there is no Consumer Reports. There are
advertising blurbs as in California news, user reviews and some attempts at
comparative tests. Some of the data on gear in Rodale's on gear is very good--for
example conservativeness comparison of various computers was very good. You have to
use what data is available when buying gear taking into account that the data may be
flawed, still it's better than nothing or listening to a dive shop salesman.

read the magazine, peruse the advertisers. If you have the sense to
unzip before pissing, you'll figure it out.

The constitution promises freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM
religion. Think about it, It ain't that hard to figure out. If your
religion is none, then deal with it.

How about simply asking opinions here?

But don't mention 'spare air'...

Hi Michael,
That would be a bit too time consuming...
Thus I was hoping for a review site...

Thanks

The problem is, you can fund it one of two ways.
Subscription/membership model (Consumer's Report) or advertising model
(magazines).  One of them can reasonably assure objectivity, but has a
high cost to the individual.  The other is cheap to you, but has the
risk of being biased towards advertisers.  Even in a comparative
review, there may be a winner, but everyone is likely to come out
smelling pretty good.

Spare air good.  Gives plenty of time to make a generic plea for
forgiveness of all sins.  And probably The Lord's Prayer, if you are
quick about it.

Our club is using the MR12 and Vector Origin for its' courses.
It's good, sturdy equipment. Nothing fancy, but it'll do the job (and keep
on doing it)
