What ever happened to the rec.Scuba FAQ?
It was a little dated but the info was still valid.

simple Google search.  Input data "rec.scuba".  First URL to pop up.

What I meant was that it hasn't been updated in nine years.

There is some information is seriously out of date and needs to be
changed, but its generally the stuff that's always going to be highly
perishable...URL's to now-dead websites, etc.

On the more non-perishable and actual scuba content, what do you think
needs to be changed?

Actual scuba content?  Where?

New equipment since 1995 might be a good start:

Standard fins vs. split fins
Weight belts vs. BC's with integral weight systems
Wet snorkel vs. dry snorkel
Wetsuit variations and occasion to use-3/2mm, 5mm, 7mm
Here's a biggy--NITROX and TriMix

Courses from Open Water to Instructor

These are just a few of the things that come to mind.
I may not be a newbie but this kind of info is helpful to everyone not in
the know.

Thanks,

0 : 0, depends on circumstances.

10:0

?? Any 7mm I had was riddeen down to 5 mm after a while, except my
Rubatex G231. And that's the oldest.

> Here's a biggy--NITROX and TriMix

Air: Nitrox 1:0, Air being more versatile with regard to depth.
Air: Trimix 1:1, giveb the faint logistics for Trimix, and adverse sea
conditions, or limited boat space, or limited purse.

> Courses from Open Water to Instructor

Thats an infinite low.

That too ;-)

The existing FAQ doesn't talk about vented fins vs non-vented fins, or
open vs heeled fins ... all existed as product variations when it was
written.  Rationale for why included:  A) products rate of change and B)
personal preferences.

> Weight belts vs. BC's with integral weight systems

Nor Jacket Style vs Horsecollar vs Wing.  Ditto to above.

> Wet snorkel vs. dry snorkel

Someone has finally made a dry snorkel that actually _works_?  Who?

> Wetsuit variations and occasion to use-3/2mm, 5mm, 7mm

As Fins/BC's, accentuated by greater extremes in personal variation.

> Here's a biggy--NITROX and TriMix

Despite Nitrox having been around for a heck of a long time, there's
still dispute over its specific trade-off benefits.  Why don't you start
a thread on the subject to see what can be actually agreed upon for
inclusion into the FAQ?

On TriMix, I don't consider it to be particularly recreational, and I'll
admit that I'm taking a mainstream viewpoint in my choice of definitions
of rec.  If you want a specific statement made, suggest one and show
that there's group concensus.

> Courses from Open Water to Instructor

Is highly perishable information best maintained by the Agencies who
sell this product, and found by the individual researcher on the
Agency's website via Google.  The FAQ already offers generic consumer
advice.
