Haven't had a chance to check messages yet, but I made it back from Florid
Saturday evening... Found out that some high winds / tornados came through
the area... Unfortunately, they took out one very large live oak, a smaller
tree (about 25 ft tall), and plenty of branches all scattered around the
yard... I'll get a chance to see the full scope of the damage tomorrow...

As far as the trip went, good diving from Key West all the way to the
Florida Panhandle... I especially liked Jackson Blue Spring, although the
grass on the bottom of the lake sure is a pain in the a.s with a jet boat...
Probably had to go over the side to clean it out 6 or 7 times between the
boat launch, the spring head, and back to the launch...

Did you do any diving around the captiva/sanibel area?  I am planning a
trip there next year to visit family, but heard that there isn't much to
see in that specific area.  If you did dive, was it any good?

Cheers

You heard pretty much right.  There are three types of diving on that
portion of Florida's west coast.  You can dive the beaches (snorkeling works
just as well) for and dollars.  When the water is clear, they're easy to
find.  Don't get greedy.  You can dive one of the small limestone ridges for
lobster, which will be in season through the first part of next year (they
may have moved out of the relatively cold water by now) or you can dive a
wreck.  If you chose the ledge or wreck, be prepared for a long boat ride.
The Gulf gets deeper very slowly.
