I'm going in Jan and want to know if I'm going to be impressed or
depressed?

I promise you it will be better than Ohio diving in January!

After being mauled by two hurricanes in one season...?
From my experience two years ago, I'd say depressed. Looking through my log
book, I find only two dives I enjoyed. One, "Theo's Wreck" was a scuttled
200ft steel freighter lying on it's side in ~60 ft of water. Is it still
there?
Two, "Annie's Paradise" was a fabulous reef. It had been closed to all
diving for several years just prior to our arrival. It had returned to
excellent shape and was my most enjoyable dive of the trip.
Again, all this was two years ago and a lot has certainly changed in just
this last summer.

I don't remember the diving around Grand Bahama Island being all that great
before they were visited by a couple of hurricanes. It's been my least
favorite island ever since Jack Tar Village, an all inclusive resort that
used to be at West End, closed.
Then again, I'm spoiled. My guess is that you'll have a good time no matter
what the conditions are.

I have been there in January and February. The water was a little cool,
around 75 degrees. The water temps in the Caribbean is warm in January,
but Grand Bahama is north of the Straits of Florida. I believe it may be
north of Key West.
The beaches are nice and the diving is worthwhile.

Grand Bahama Island is quite a ways north of Key West, around 200 miles
north. It's more or less off the coast of West Palm Beach.
