Brian - 09 Nov 2004 14:42 GMT Over the last couple of weeks there have been posts by people wondering why there are so few items dealing with scuba. The original posters have been blasted by the very people who are clogging up this usegroup with their seemingly endless replies on topics that have nothing to do with diving. They have put down these innocent observations (sometimes in the foul language that typifies their other irrelevant posts), arguing this this is a place where scuba devotees can talk about anything they want. Some of these people are the same individuls who act as guardians of rec.scuba and pour vitriol on a poster for spamming a scuba product. Well quite frankly spamming a scuba product is infinately more prefereable in this group rather than the uninformed blather about Bush. If you want to indulge in so-called discussions on non scuba topics I would respectfully suggest you go to any one of hundreds of other sites where you can vent yourself.

Which is true, except for your erronous assumption that the inquiries are innocent or polite.

What response were you expecting?
"Oh, wait, Brian, of course you're right. Give us ten minutes, and the people who have collectively been posting here for several hundred years will get this place cleaned out spic and span, JUST THE WAY YOU WANT IT."
Or that Rhode Island fuquit Tom, who needs the protection of moderators to find his own zipper.
As for scuba participation, I just got back from a tri-state trip to dive with a fellow Rec.scuban, one of the 70+ I've met or dived with, in 9 states. Off the top of my head, I'd say it was my 50th newsgroup dive.
I'm planning a weeklong Keys trip as we speak, where I may dive with a dozen of my friends (including two I've known for years and never met) in an 400 mile spree across Florida.
Go to Google Advanced Group Search.
Type "Rec.scuba" in group, "Popeye" in author, sort by date.
When your number of posts here surpasses that, and when you've been diving with as many members as me, as many times as I have, in as many places, I might consider letting you tell me what to post in -my- motherfuckin newsgroup.
While you're waiting, run up a list for us of all the scuba questions you've asked here.
And did you have one this time, or would you just sh.t in your hat?

Raising two kids and organizing diving-related activities for a dive club tends to limit the amount of time available for additional diving.

I do find it interesting, culturally-wise, that he refers to it as a Shiner Bock. The shine part is definitely old slang, but I've never heard the regional bock instead of the usual word beginning with d and i. Those Texans are funny, naming their genitals after a wannabe microbrew that tastes just like the nonsexually emitted genitaliar product. I wonder why I could start calling mine? Hefe? Anchor Steam? Redhook? Fat Tire? The women can always refer to theirs as Busch, of course.

And being towed back by my comrade on a Honda CB 125 the full 1400km to Germany...

> The original > posters have been blasted by the very people who are clogging up this [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > irrelevant posts), arguing this this is a place where scuba devotees > can talk about anything they want. Yes, the culture here can be blunt. There are some historical reasons for it, but it has become further polarized by events, such as the decisive National election (an example of some of the OT threads). Perhaps things will settle back down. Hopefully.
> If you want to indulge in so-called discussions on non scuba > topics I would respectfully suggest you go to any one of > hundreds of other sites where you can vent yourself. And the compliment can be said here too...if you want scuba discussions, charity begins at home. There's probably a lot of posters who would really prefer to have a good scuba thread to discuss instead of the OT drivel.
