Looking for comments on diving in Belize. Also, for the non-dive days, how
far and nice are the Mayan riuns in the region?

I love Belize, in particular Ambergris Caye. What kind of comments are you
looking for?

I haven't been to the ruins, but there are day trips run out of Ambergris
Caye to Altun Ha and Lamanai. You can also get to Tikal by plane without
incurring an overnight, on a tour booked through Tropic Air.

There are very extensive reefs in Belize - miles and miles of them. I
found the extent impressive. However the coral is kind of
monochromatic which I found disappointing. It's kind of tan. I've
just read a review which said that the viz wasn't as good as in some
other places.
I had a camera without a separate flash, so you can judge for yourself

I used Tikal as a way to get past the buffer non-diving days at the
end of the vacation. Although I did fly from Ambergris to Belize
City. We took a day trip from the Cayo district by van and then
stayed there overnight and spent another day there.

There are a LOT of ruins in Belize and they are quite good. There's a
small ruin in the city of San Ignacio (Cahal Peche).

So what is the airline like that goes from Belize City to San Pedro??
>Looking for comments on diving in Belize.
One of the three best dives I've ever done was a wall dive in Belize. The
amazing part was that it was a cruise ship dive.

Clint, my answer to your SUBJECT is "yes".
My comment to your "line above" is that it's almost as vague as
"Looking for comments on diving". :-)
I did a search with the keywords "diving in Belize" in the
advanced groups (newsgroups) search section and found 7230
hits in 0.40 sec.
Obviously a tremendous amount has already been posted about
diving in Belize, and you will find most of the comments you
find now already been posted somewhere in the archives earlier.
The more SPECIFIC you can pose your questions (perhaps after a
casual perusal of the archives) the more helpful answers you're
likely to get.
My own opinion and very general summary (which I am sure have
already been posted by me and others many times, and flamed by
still others just as many times <G>) are:
1. If you're comparing Caribbean dive locations on liveaboards,
then Belize is my THIRD favorite location.
2. WITHIN Belize and among the huge number of Cayes and reefs,
The Outer Reefs (where the liveaboards go for the most part)
are better than the closer reefs to Belize City.
3. The famous Belize Blue Hole -- once is a MUST. Twice is one
time too many. :-) I've done it at least four times. ;-)
