It has been a bit more than four years since my wife and I purchased our
Halcyon backplates and wings at Brownie's Southport Divers in Ft Lauderdale.
http://www.yachtdiver.com   Subsequently I had a bad experience with
Brownie's, and I said so here.  Now I've had a good -- or at least
acceptable experience, and to be fair, I'll post it too.

Last Saturday we went diving.  Prior to the first dive my power inflator
was sticking.  Shortly after I freed it I noticed that it was slowly
inflating my wing.  Not good.  I disconected it for the first dive.

(Incidently, this was the first time I did a full dive wihtout a working
power inflator.  No problems.)

Between dives I fussed with the inflator and it seemed to be working.
However, halfway through the second dive I realized that I was haging
to vent air from my wing way too often.  Off came the hose again and
we finished the second dive.

After the dive I re-conected the power inflator and observed that my
woudl very slowly fill with air.  (It took at least half a minute
to even be noticable.)  I have not opened the valve, but the apparent
problem is corrosion -- some of which is externally apparent.

On Monday I drove to Brownies to get this fixed.  Unlike the last time
I was there, I was courteously and professionally treated.  I was offered
the choice or repair -- at a minimum cost of $30 for labor plus parts --
or replacement -- at a cost of $46.  (Both prices plus tax.)  Replacement
seemed a better deal, and would save me a second trip to the shop
which is a bit out of the way for me.  The replacement valve was in stock
and it was installed in about 5 minutes.  Brownie's even had my prior
purchase records available on-line!

Frankly, I still think Halcyon is significantly overpriced -- and they
do not permit discounting.  If I were buying a wing/plate today, I would
probably look closely at the newest DiveRite offerings (which were not
available four years ago.  However, Brownie's is now back in my "good
graces", and I will deal with them when/as appropriate.

Was it one of the stainless ones?

No.  It was one of the earlier models.
The replacement is one of the new, stainless type.
