I'm thinking about diving the Doria next year, has anyone dove the Doria in
the last couple of years? Is it worth the trouble and the money?

Dove it last year. The group I went with, I dive regularly with anyway.
10 divers and close to as many mates, engineers, crew and captains. From
Freeport, LI, a nice long boat ride. The dive was fine. Lots of strong
current on one of the dives. All the way down to the wreck (took over
7minutes to get to the wreck). Aborted dive with really strong current
even after dropping over side. 6hrs each nite filling tanks, deco
bottles and O2 bottles. Lots of work, preparation and planning. Was it
worth it? For us it was. Others would say "too much work".
The promenade deck has collapsed into itself. Vis was a decent 20'-25'
when we dove.

Did you penetrate the wreak? What sections did you visit? I've heard they
welded Gimbals Hole close any truth in that? What is the condition of the
upper and foyer decks?

Doesn't matter whether it was or wasn't since the Promenade deck has
apparently fallen away, taking Gimbel's hole with it.

"Mild" penetration. More like a sight seeing tour. I am not an artifact
hound. The Promenade decks are all collapsed inward like a "v".  It is
becoming a real "wreck". There is no superstructure. The hull of the
wreck is still intact. Gimbals hole I didn't look at. I wouldn't want to
go there anyway. Whatever was "gettable", was gotten, and not worth the
risk (at least for me). there might be more "finds" now that the decks
are collapsed. A bread basket came out and a few other items, but again,
I am not into artifacts. Any structure from the main deck up is not
there. The "top" of at wreckage can be reached in the 215' range. The
hull at 190'.

Also, depends on the cost, accommodations, etc...
