Reminds me of the guy in the FL Panhandle who took on a shark bare
handed and saved that (his?) little kid's arm, and life, a year or so
ago.

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - An Icelandic fishing captain, known as "the
Iceman" for his tough character, grabbed a 660-pound shark with his
bare hands as it swam in shallow water toward his crew, a witness said
Thursday.

The skipper of the trawler "Erik the Red" was on a beach in Kuummiit,
east Greenland, watching his crew processing a catch when he saw the
shark swimming toward the fish blood and guts -- and his men.

Captain Sigurdur Petursson, known to locals as "the Iceman," ran into
the shallow water and grabbed the shark by its tail. He dragged it off
to dry land and killed it with his knife.

"He caught it just with his hands. There was a lot of blood in the sea
and the shark came in and he thought it was dangerous," Frede Kilime,
a hunter and fisherman who watched from the beach, told Reuters by
phone from Greenland.

Icelandic author and journalist Reynir Traustason, who knows the
trawler captain, said the act was typical of the man.

"He's called 'the Iceman' because he isn't scared of anything," he
said. "I know the people in that part of the world. They are really
tough."

I was really impressed until I did a little digging. It was a "Sleeper
Shark" that he killed. Not exactly a man-eater. He says he now wants to try
& kill a Polar bear. I hope he doesn't try to grab it by it's tail!

The "real man" award should go to someone that nails his foot to the
roof.... now THAT takes a "real man"!

Now Tony, you know damn right well its not nice to poke fun at folks
who have attempted self-crucifixion.

It is an extremely rare and very troubling mental disorder.

I don't know if you ever saw the follow-up reports because the uncle
didn't have much to say.

It seems that the shark was on the end of his fishing line and he felt
pretty bad after letting the kids charge into the surf before he
actually had it landed and under control..

He probably thinks about it often.

No I hadn't and, yes I bet he does. Thanks for the update.

Sharks are very, very dangerous to try and land.

I had a close quarters, "street fight" with one in a small center
console boat many years ago (my dumber days). My buddy caught a
+-7'er, I gaffed it in it's bottom jaw and brought the thing aboard.
We had intentions to take pictures, eat it, mount the jaws, and tell
everybody who would listen what "Great Warrior Fishermen" (like Capt
Quint) we were.

Well, the shark had a different idea and went absolutely ballistic
once onboard. I was not expected this. It damn near wrestled the gaff
out of my hand and, with its' tail it smashed two tackle boxes all to
pieces and cracked the console in several places before -we- (it was
my buddy's boat and he immediately joined the fight) managed to get it
back in the water and release it.

Nobody's bringing a shark aboard my boat, PER.IOD

I believe that's Tom's policy as well.

Bring a camera along, take a picture and, let it go.
