Hi all-
Last went diving this past March in Cayman and my equipment has been in
storage ever since. Just booked a trip to St Lucia for the end of November
and would like to know what the general community recommends regarding
maintenance schedule of the reg. It was newly purchased right before that
trip to Cayman and was only used for 1 week. Should I have it serviced?
If so, do I have to go to a Mares authorized service facility? It doesn't
look like there are many in the NYC/NJ area.
Thanks in advance,

A reg prolly deteriorates faster in storage than it does in use. At
least have it checked out.

I have been using Mares regs for a number of years now. The shop that
services them is Mid-Atlantic Scuba Center, located in Langhorne, PA.
This is the shop where I purchased the regs. They are just over the
river from Trenton, NJ so I suppose if you wanted, you could take or
mail your regs to them if you can't find anyone else. Personally, if I
used my brand new Mares reg for one week only and then stored it away
for 8 months, I'd dive with it without getting it serviced. I believe
the manufacturer asks that you have it serviced after every 100 dives
or once per year, whichever occurs first. Why don't you look thru the
information that you received from Mares when you purchased the reg
and / or check directly with them ?? I'm sure they also have a
toll-free number that you can call for more info and to ask which shop
they recommend near you for service.
