Damn liberal thinking, let someone or something else control your > judgments....... <grin> That reminds me. I need to buy a new, fairly inexpensive watch. I had the Timex Ironman for a coupla years but it took a crap for no apparent reason so I'm reluctant to buy the same watch. I don't wear a watch other than as a backup timer while diving so don't want to break the bank. Any suggestions?
Dave.

Yeah, the only reason, other than that mine only lasted two years, I was looking around is that the buttons on the outside of the Ironman could easily be pushed/ reset if you stuck yer hand in a hole after a bug.....or even if you wear a glove. Apart from that, I liked it just fine. I'd kinda prefer a bezel to a stop/ timer tho'.

I've still got a couple of them. They start automatically when you enter the water and stop when you exit, record several dives before they begin overwriting previous ones and they're cheap . . . if you can still find them.

You got any manufacturers/ names? I'm not familiar with that type. My only criteria there would be, as with a computer, I don't want anything that makes beeping noises at *any* time.

Damn things went up to $24.
I had one that I rotted the wrist straps off twice, probably had better than 200 dives on it over the course of 4 years.
It finally died, and I haven't replaced it since.
Just got off the phone with our buddy Mike P.
Dirty f.cker is off to Panama City for 3 months of school and fun at NEDU, and I am green with envy.
Looks like years of eating the sh.t duty finally paid off for him.

Only found the digital version too, and I hate digital only watches. Anybody have any experience with Timex's "Expedition" I noticed some of them are rated to 50m and some to100m. I liked a couple of the dial type ones and one had a bezel which is all I really need.

Mine prolly had about 40 dives over about htree years and it took a crap. Reason unknown. The strap was the only part worth keeping, I really liked it. The comfy, velcro type.

I'm glad things turned around for Mike. He is a good man. I haven't talked to him since before he went off to that last freediving thing in the Med. Hafta try to catch up soon, tell him I said so if you talk to him.
Cheers, Dave.

Steve House - 13 Aug 2004 13:04 GMT Princeton no longer markets their mechanical bottom timer but saw a couple on eBay recently.

It's survived various motorcycle wrecks (including the one that required them to collect my body parts for reassembly)... Still works great... It's an automatic, so no batteries to buy... Looks nearly identical to the current model that they make...

Looks nearly identical to the current model that they make... What sort of price range? As I said, the only time I ever wear a watch is while diving, so a fancy dancy one would be a bit of a waste.

I think they cost about as much these days as they did when I bought mine in 1976... Probably a little cheaper even before you account for inflation of the currency... Here's a link to a photo of it a a company that sells the current model... The "list price" is $139... Don't know what their price is though... When I bought mine back in 1976, I think it was over $200...

Then again, maybe it was this one... Not sure what the difference is other than the price...
http://www.skywatches.com.sg/seiko/auto_relay_chronograph/SKX013RUBBER.htm
It's a very simple watch... Rotating bezel for a timer... 200m water resistant (mine is only 150m)... No batteries (i.e.self-winding / automatic)... Very solidly made (nice solid chunk of stainless steel)... I wear it all the time, 24x7... Sleeping, showering, working on my car or aircraft, etc... Some people don't like wearing a watch all the time... I kind of feel unbalanced without it... <grin>
