Is there any recreational diving of note to be found in Greece?

I've been diving on Lesvos. Wasn't that bad. There's however not that much
life (the same goes for the Turkish waters). Keep in mind that you can't
dive wherever you want in Greece: they're kinda protective when it comes to
their archaeological patrimony... You always need to dive with a local dive
guide.

Spent four years diving in Greece as I was stationed there during a hitch in
the Air Force.  There is plenty of diving but don't expect much marine life,
plenty of octopus and lobster though.  I'm very familiar with the Agean Dive
Center run by Else Stroud,  I believe the website is www.adc.gr/
They offer boat and beach dives.  One of my favorite places to dive was the
island of Agristi, a short boat ride from Piraeus, the main port just south
of Athens. I haven't been back in awhile but will be taking my son diving
there in August.  I would try to contact Else at the Agean Dive Club for up
to the date information.  Plenty of diving on Crete, Rhodos and other
various islands. Good luck and good diving.

almost every greek dives at the greek waters - we have plenty fishermen
, they catch fish to feed the tourists at the taverns and additionaly we
have Italians and others who come at Greece with no money just a tent
and a speargun - sometimes with scuba 2 - and catch fish to eat and to
pay for their vacation - so dont expect to see to much life to most
reachable places - big islands etc. if you want to see life u should go
to small islands where few boats per week visit them - take a map with
the greek islands and ask your travel agent which dont have regular boat
line - there you will found the big blue - like the movie at the
beginnig at the small island of Amorgos ( but dont go now there - after
the movie the island became popular - too many divers)

I've enjoyed diving with several operators in Greece (Kefalonia,
Crete, Santorini); by far the best experience there (indeed in any
part of the world in my five years of diving) was with Peter
Nicolaides of the Aegean Dive College in Paros
(http://www.aegeandiving.gr/).  He's familiar with the marine ecology,
history, and archaeology, and he provided a wonderfully personalized
experience.

I've just come back from Santorini and did 8 dives with Santorini Dive
Centre.

They were a professional outfit and the diving was OK from what I
understand is out there in Greece.

Most stuff 18 to 20M max as most of their trade is PADI OWD.  They can
do other courses and the water is plenty deep enough for anybody.

They have their office in Perissa and they dive from Akrotiri (they will
drive you there).
