Uhm, I don't think it mattered much that the hose slipped from his
mouth.  A human will not be able to suck air at that depth without some
kind of pressurized system.  Actually, J. Cousteau wroute about this in
the 50's already.  A very fit person might be able to suck on a hose
down to about 1.5m [*], but that's about it.

You think somebody can suck air through a hose at 1.5 meters, give it a try.
Personally, I don't believe it's possible.

That was a bowling ball and it wasn't underwater.

I tried this as a kid at out swimming pool.  Hose laying there. 8ft of
water.  I put my mouth on the hose and jumped in liked to have sucked my
mouth into the house - I didn't get very deep when I discovered this was
a very stupid idea (putting my mouth on a hose) taught me never never to
do that again!

I may have been 12 - 18" possibly 2' deep

Note the wording: "... a very fit person might be able to ...".  Also
note that it wasn't me how said that, I merly quoted.

Note the working.  If you think somebody can suck air through a hose at 1.5
meters, you give it a try.  Personally, I don't believe it is possible.

I don't care about fit or not.  Inhalation force comes from a vacuum into
which the lungs expand.  How fit you are has very, very little to do with
it.  I didn't say that you said it, I said, if you believe it, try it.

Sounds like a great way to "hose" your lungs.

2-3 feet is about my limit.

One of our lady friends had her oldest son and his pal using a bucket fed
with a garden hose attached to a fitting soldered to
the top (I have to admit they did some nice work for kids!), and a valve.

The bucket was anchored to a rope tied off to a big rock they dropped off
the dock.

One would swim down, stick his heads up inside the bucket (full of air) and
then tug on the rope to signal to open the valve topside.

The one topside was amazed to get a face full of salt water, the one below
almost drowned when the bucket emptied instantly, and sucked his
head and hair up into it.

We now call them "Buckethead I and II".

I tried the same thing except in a pool, with a lead weight and with an
aquarium pump instead of a hose.  My idea didn't work either.
