I was looking around for a new Safe-Second and ran across the Atomic SS1
which is a combination inflator/regulator. I would like to use it with my
Sea Quest Pro Unlimited BC, but to do so there is an adaptor required. I am
concerned about the dependability of these adaptors. If anyone has
experience or an opinion I would like to hear it.
Thanks

In the beginning, when power inflators were novel, vendors sold the
inflator hose with the BC so you could hook it to any old first stage,
most of which had a spare low pressure port. At first, both ends of the
hose were standard (except my poseidon) and interchangeable between BCs.
Over the years, selling the hose with the BC became standard practice.
More recently, the BC connection has been modified by manufacturers so
that the hose no longer fits all power inflators. In some cases, the
variances are not readily apparent. Incredibly stupid, but that's the
way it is.
Step one is to see if the proper male fitting for the Atomic is the same
thread as the male fitting on the BC. If so, just change them out. If
not, yer prolly stuck with an adapter which is no big deal, just adds
one more schrader valve and one more connector.

I have an SS1 and the adaptor is really easy to install. It takes maybe 4 or 5
minutes top.
They supply all the parts you need. Tools I used were a crescent wrench, small
screwdiver, and an exacto knife to trim the zip-tie.

Hi Joe:
I just added an SS1 to my BC (actually my LDS added it). I discovered
as I was getting on the dive charter boat that my BC inflator hose
didn't have the correct connector to fit the SS1 (not a good time to
make this discovery). Fortunately somebody was able to loan me an
adaptor, so I dove with that. When I got back my LDS simply swapped the
BC hose out for one with a bigger connector. No adaptor needed (and one
less failure point).
