Hello all,

Is there a way I can reset the memory (and hence logbook and history)
without sending it in to Suunto?

Cheers,

Yes there is, you need a special program (which I have) and the PC interface
(which I also have, and which I will not share). You can buy the interface
or build one yourself.

Send me a request by email for a copy of the program.

Can't you just remove the battery?

According to the manual removing the battery preserves the history log.

That doesn't clear the memory.

Does it work if you take the battery out for 24 hours or more?

I'm not sure. I only ever take it out long enough so it stops that
stupid beeping and flashing error message.

   Um, BT mode?   ;-)

Uh Yeah, BT mode.:-)

Actually I sometimes leave it in computer mode and bend it just for fun
and sometimes I bend it and leave it because it's a way easier way to
get it into gauge mode than pushing all those stupid buttons.

When I bought my current one, just got the Uwatec BT.  No buttons to
push for dive info at all.  Get it wet, it's on, go down 4 ffw, it starts,
surface for 5 minutes or more, starts another dive.  Gotta love simplicity,
and the $400 US I saved.

Except my Uwatec BT doesn't download so I can make those pretty little
graphs. That's gotta make the Vyper worth the extra 400 bucks, doesn't
it? Doesn't IT? Someone please tell me it does.

It does.... plus when you wanna relax and be a stroke on vacation
diving 80s, you can actually use it as a nitrox computer and not mess
with all those silly techy stops that only freak out the Club Med DMs.

It freaks 'em out enough when they see you doing a long-hose S-drill
30-seconds into the dive, and they swim over and start checking the
donee's valves to make sure they're on thinking he was OOA because he
forgot.

May I ask why you would want to do that?

I can think of 2 reasons. You are either buying or selling a Vyper. (could
be that it is stolen).

Richard reported to me that the program worked fine for him.
