I was shooting video this week for Airhogs' Ex-wife and we had a close
encounter with a cool shark.

Cool video Jim! Did anyone feel threatened or nervous with the shark around?
Lee Bell - 14 Apr 2004 12:50 GMT
OK, I could use some help.

I clicked on Jim's link and got a message that a video codec was required.
I downloaded the file and am having the same problem.  Obviously some people
saw the video.  I'd like to also.  Anyone?

Played just fine in Windows Media Player.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Of course, so does falling down a flight of stairs.

Sure, but  Lee may not have had an active internet connection up for Windows
Media Player to download the necessary codec automatically, or it may not be
properly set up to automatically download codecs.  When WMP fails to
download a codec for an avi, it usually just plays the audio.  Sometimes you
ge the error downloading codec message.

To make things more difficult, avis come in a wide variety of flavors, and
every brand of video software likes to put out video with its own
compression. To avoid codec downloading issues since I sometimes have my
laptop unplugged form the net, and because sometimes even with an internet
connection it gets confused, I have a lot of codecs installed on my
computer.  Gordian Knot is a good pack.  NIMO, or NIMO lite, is handy too.
These can be found with a google search.  I will look for the page I last
used to set up my codecs pretty well.  A good instruction sheet, on a DivX
site I think.

Cheers!

After about 4 hours of Windows updates last night, it played on mine too.

Thanks everybody.

Very nice, but too short.  It was worth it for three reasons:
1. My curiosity would not let me miss the clip.
2. Judging from how many updates were critical and recommended, it was past
time to update anyway.
3. I slept through the update process.

Lee,
I donwloaded the file and saved it to disk.  I then used Real One player
and it played fine.

I tried that too.  I was on my office, Windows 2000 machine and nothing I
did got me past the warning.  I'm trying it on my home computer as I type.

Good luck.  Although it was brief, it was a good video.

Can you tell me what kind of shark it is?

It runs using Windows media player under Windows 2000. I was not able
to run it in QuickTime running Mac 10.2.

Try downloading the latest version of WMP.

According to GSpot codec analyser, it's Indeo 5.10 - support for this was
built-in to all recent versions of Windows, so you shouldn't need to
download any codecs. Which OS are you using?

Cheers, Benedict.
