If soap and hot water is good enough for health departments, restaurants, etc. I guess it should be good enough for me. I'd probably use some kind of antiseptic wash also, but I probably wouldn't really need to. I'd be more worried about the condition of the gear than any germs. What do you do for washing your silverware & dishes at home? And what about "wash in cold water only" clothing? Imagine all the little critters that are found in every teaspoon of seawater before thinking about getting Certified to go diving.
