Can anyone recommend some good scuba locations with a few hours of
Newark International Airport ?

Is there anything worthwhile off Virginia the Carolinas or Georgia?
What recommendations are there for Florida?

What I'm trying to find is a place where I can take one flight from
Newark and fly into an airport that's relatively close to a diving
location.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sy

Go to travelocity or expedia or something like that, and check
itineraries from Newark to nice places such as Cozumel or Grand
Cayman.

Drive over to Dutch Springs in PA.  The Jersey coast is littered with
wrecks, you should have no trouble finding charters.

Fort Lauderdale has good diving within a half hour of the airport.

There are good sites in many locations what type of diving do you want to
do?

I received my Open Water Certification (YMCA) a few years ago.

I need a few refresher dives.  I'd like a warm water location, clear to
75 ft..  The usual, I guess.

Thanks

Well I would say that you probobly want to fly down to West Palm or so to
get some nice warm water. I don't dive the shallower stuff down there so
can't give a lot of advice, google in this group and you'll find some trip
reports from regulars. I can reccommend a shop http://www.fillexpress.com,
they could help hook you up with a boat doing the dives you want to do.

Dives of Va tend to be cooler water lower vis.

NC (Beaufort, Morehead City)
Nice dives but tend to be deeper ~100 ft and many of the boats want a
advanced card to take you out.

Depends on the time for year you are talking about. There is great wreck
diving off of NJ/NY/LI.

Probably June or July.

How clear are the waters.  Do I need special Certification to dive
these wrecks?

If you are planning to just orbit the wreck, you really don't need
anything.  You will probably want advanced training in deep diving and
such, but not much else.

Now penetration is a whole 'nother story (and quit with the wise
cracks  :-).  Find somebody to teach you how to dive a wreck safely.

Or remember us all in your will.

Fly to Palm Beach (nicest of the south Florida airpors) or Ft Lauderdale.
Fly to Miami if you must, but it is not a pleasant airport.

Search the archives for lots of advice about dive operators.

Miami is a good reason to get a Fla. non-resident carry permit.

Even more OT:  Charlie, are you planning on going to HP World this
year?

Not necessary if you come from a state that also issues permits.  We have
reciprocal agreements with just about every one of them.  Shame is, you
can't carry in Miami Airport.  If you could, the Redcaps would be a lot more
polite.

Martha's Vineyard?  I heard JFK Jr went 'diving' there...
