I'm going to Grand Cayman toward the end of April. How much of an exposure
suit is needed to dive there? Any information you have on renting suits and
gear would be helpful. Some other guys from the locations news group are
going to be there at the same time. Anyone here going to be visiting the
same time? I'm getting there on April 19.
Thanks, Rocky

How much suit one needs varies with each person. Expect the water
temp to be about 80 F. Some people can do that in the buff, others
need drysuits. I find a 3mm shorty comfy at that temp.
Suits and gear are generally available from whatever dive shop you go
with.

I'd personally be in a full 3mm...maybe thinking about a beanie or hood,
too.
You will get occasional "winter" weather patterns still in April, with
some good winds. I had one on a visit around ten years ago, and we
were very happy for the staff packing some thermoses of Hot Chocolate on
diveboat for us to imbibe after we came up from the night dive.

The water is really warm in April. A skin should suffice. I would buy it at
home and bring it with you. There are so many good shops that you can rent
gear from. It is at the end of the season so some of the rental gear (like
suits) might be in poor shape. If you are staying at a diving hotel I would
rent my gear from the shop. I stay and dive either with Sunset House or
Cobalt Hotel / Tek-Divers.
