Make a decision and buy something. If you think you'll like either of the
three, you probably will.

Try before you buy.
Brad asked: "What should I do?"
Read this and see if it helps lift any of the fog.

Find a way to try before you buy. If the dive shop does't rent what they
sell go elswhere. You can rent and be happy for a long time, and you may
avoid a big mistake. Preferences in BCs can be very personal -- what you
like may be very different from your buddy or instructor's ideas.
I suggest that you rend and try at least 3-4 different BCs. At least 2-4
dives for each one. I also suggest that one of the ones you try should be
a backplate/harness/wing setup. Mayn divers (including me) on this group
and in the real-world are finding that this "old fashion" system is the
most comfortable, most flexible and overall best BC system. Of course,
others will disagree with this, which is why you need to TRY different
systems.
BTW, if you are tempted to think that the Transpack II is "just like"
a backplate/harness/wing system, you are wrong. The Transpack lacks
a ridgid backplate, which is a BIG difference. Many divers report that
it feels much less securethat a backplate system. And while all the
buckles and quick conntects on the Transpack may look "neat", in practice
they are all unnecessary things that can break or come open. And, at least
to me, it seems like a nightmare to get them all adjusted right. But
even with these drawbacks, I would choose the Transpac over the other
two if I could not get a backplate/wing setup.

...and if you later want to switch to a BP/wing system, the investment
will be small as you can continue to use the Recwing.

I have one and I'm not wild about it. I've found there nifty gusset
system doesn't do what they claim. If you take it off the wing is a
little too big for singles. I'm still playing with it though.

Cutoff the cord and remove the plastic sleeves and cut the "through" points
where the sleeves go and it cleans up enough to use. It sucks as a singles
wing and sucks as a doubles wing--but is nice to have for back up I have
used it for both.--it's construction is ten times better than the one I had
to return to that High Springs company to get the "welds" repaired....

Already done.

I don't want to ruin its resale value just yet.

The Trash Pac's disconnects are usable when they come off the corpse.

First, of all, most dive shops I have seen have rental BC's but they do not have
a rental version of every size of every model that they sell.
Second, if you are a vacation diver, the cost of a series of one week rentals
adds up pretty quickly.
So this trying before buying is not always practical.

As usual Dan, you are using the wrong shop.
