I did crystal river over the weekend and found it to be a good time
and pretty affordable for a day of fun. For 65 bucks you can rent a
jon
boat for the day and use it to snorkel some of the springs or to dive
a couple of the deeper springs. My date and I were going to just dive
but
we found the first series of springs (three sisters) to be much better
for snorkeling, this area was incredibly clear and almost had a blue
color as
if in the keys. The deeper spring head that I dove had great viz but
it was
more of the light green cast you might expect from gulf waters. Since
the water
in most of these areas is slow speed or idle speed this reduces the
concerns
over speeding boats in the area. I felt quite safe with regards to the
boat traffic and the deeper spring head was also in a buoyed off area,
pretty decent
day actually. The hole that the deeper spring was in went on further
into a cave
but i was alone (the little honey was tending to the boat) so I just
muttled around the rocky area that formed the spring head. Saw an
assortment of both
saltwater fish (snapper and a couple redfish) and also freshwater
(bass and
pan fish) so the fishing is probably pretty good also. I'd give it a
thumbs up
for just poking around for a day.

actually there were very few seen the day we were there, my date saw two
at the pier very early the morning before we left, I was still in bed.
I see them a lot down in my area (back bays estero island, fort myers)
so i really didn't get to upset about not sighting any, there alright
I guess, I'd much prefer a shark or some huge cuda to float my boat !
